Help with finding an international EU student find a temporary place at school

The situation is that I'm currently living in a home-stay with an Italian family whilst on an Erasmus programme. One of the family's sons, who is 16 years old would like to come study in England, in a 6th form or college but only for a short duration (around 6-months). So we are wondering if such a placement is possible?

One of the reasons he would like to come to England is that the rest of his class mates will be going to Germany for the short exchange, so he thought that it might be possible to do the same in England (his preference).

So far, he has contacted a few 6th forms and colleges but they said that he would have to stay longer.

If he comes for a school year and takes AS (so September - June - 10 months) then the school could get funding for him as though he were a normal UK student. If he doesn't then they get no money for him and are unlikely to agree. (I arranged this at my school for a German lad. He didn't particularly want to do AS levels as he had finished school in Germany at barely 17, it was just a way of giving him something to do and students to socialise with for a few months in England. For the record he got ABBC.
