OP, I love that idea.

Personally, I love science. I feel like it is the sole reason God allows me to wake up in the morning. But I would switch to a housewife any second if I could.

But then your god wouldn't allow you to wake up in the morning & you'd die leaving behind a grieving family??? Never quit science!!!
My mum and her friends had the ideal life when I was younger. They'd get to relax at home watching This Morning and playing with their children, tidy up a bit, go to toddler groups to socialise with other mums, etc.

I'd rather have that life of a close, stable group of friends and spending time with your children than be off getting a career spending my time with strangers all day. But I'm at uni and that's probably how my life will turn out.

As a man I have no choice. Maximizing time spent with any kids is not an option available to me. Instead I have to peruse some career I will probably hate or do something that doesn't pay much an then some female parasite will resent me for not busting my ass to earn a promotion just so she can sit on her arse all day.

If I started saying the sort of things women are saying on this thread I would be deemed unattractive by so many women. I would love a to have the option open to escape from as **** carrier/job. But nope. It doesn't matter if it is techanically an option for me, society is shaped so I feel pressure to be the "bread earner" whilst she spends more time iwth the kids and forms a better bond with them.

Gender equality goes both ways. You can't have your cake and eat it.

I will probably be single for ever anyway waiting to die in a job I hate so it all just getting angry over something completely academic anyway. I just can not be bothered with life anymore.

What's your idea for your small business, then, Coben?

I was thinking along the same lines as you but personally I'd get a degree then I'd work for a while

That's pretty awful. You don't even have the capability of being independent. What happens when your husband leaves you?

Something like 70% of divorces are initiated by women.

Granted he could cheat on you ect.. if she chose poorly.
I doubt if you are alone. Visit Rotherham and Merthyr Tydfil and there will be many like you. The only difference is you seem to have made a conscious decision and a choice.

On the feminism side; I categorically am a feminist and feminism is about men and women having equal opportunity to choose to pursue a career/be a home-maker/combination and not be restricted by economic discrimination or taboo.

Thank you. Aneurism avoided.

To be honest mate being single sounds vastly better than spending your life working so that some entitled woman can have her carefree life.

Given that it's the woman who goes through pregnancy and childbirth, they're the partner that has to take maternity leave and usually has to sacrifice their job for their kids.

Once you stop breast feeding (which lots of women don't even do) there is no reason why a man can't do just as good a job. Modern feminism is devoting lots of time and energy to increasing rights for women on maternity leave with regards to them being bale to continue a career. Men get like 2 weeks paternity. This is ensures it is the woman that stays at home, if men could legally get the same time off you would eqaulise the differences between the genders somewhat and end "maternity discrimination".

as women, should not be afraid to admit if we don't want high flying careers - this kind of feminist criticism is wrong.

Most feminists don't critisise that. It is all about having the choice. A choice that men do not get. If feminism is really about gender equality (not increasing female rights and ignoring men) then this is the sort of thing it should address.
I thought it was quite obvious that by 'working' OP meant in a traditional job.

It's also quite possible to work from home and be the breadwinner at the same time. Yes a business is hard work but it is often more flexible than a job which is particularly necessary when bringing up children.

A bond which will later allow her to keep the kids and the home if she divorces you! Consequently she has your balls in a vice until then.

Much work to be done in this area.

Exactly thats the only ptoblem I would have with it, you cant trust/rely on other people only yourself.

You have to do some teaching and lecturing, but it's nothing like the hours of a school teacher. If you're intelligent about the way you choose your specialism, you can go into virtually any area with your 'research', and even if you want to do something different you have more credibility and contacts with publishers. You can't write c**p, and you have to make a genuine contribution to academia, but you get a pretty good deal.

My Dad does work at a non-Russel group university though - I'd imagine there's more pressure at Oxford or Cambridge.

Er...fair enough then.

But I wouldn't recommend it for someone who "[has] no intention of working".

PS: you can write crap as an academic. Just become a postmodernist...

what's wrong with being lazy?

Nothing, as long as you can support yourself.

I think you're right, but how many men would want to stay at home?

You are brave. It's almost socially unacceptable now for a woman to say that she wants to stay at home and raise children. The feminists have silenced these women, they'll be coming for you soon.

You do as you wish.

Feminism hasn't silenced them. Feminists fight for women who are forced into oppressive roles. Feminists believe that women should be able to do what they want to do. So if you don't want to have a career then you go girl if that's what you want

The younger you have a child, the healthier it will be.

This is well established in the scientific literature. Stress and age negatively impact women's ability to bear healthy children by a large degree.

If you want to be a happy housewife who gives birth to awesome kids, get cracking. You don't have many years left before the kid's probability of having health problems starts rising.
Most women are stay at hope moms, or work in HR or as a secretary, barmaid etc.. (am sure i left out other pertinent proletarian jobs by meh)

Do you really think though that through history women also wanted to stay at home? why should the mans career be prioritised?
