What does it mean to dilate a 3D object?

For example, to dilate a spheroid by a factor of k , would it just go from

(x/a)^2+(y/b)^2+(z/c)^2=1

to

(kx/a)^2+(ky/b)^2+(kz/c)^2=1

?

dilate I think means enlarge

I could be wrong but to enlarge in a given direction by scale factor k, you replace the corresponding cordinate say x, by x/k
