In March we'll have a stickied thread for this.

Right now it is far to early to be sending firm/insurance decisions through on Track. The EARLY deadline is May 6 and there are no benefits to choosing early. In fact every year we have dozens of threads from people who have made the wrong choice early and limited their options.
I've firmed Warwick for History
I have all five offers but will certainly be waiting a while before confirming anything.
I firmed mine purely because I knew I wanted Hertfordshire I loved the campus and the course and the accommodation. I went to 2 open days and felt I could really see myself spending 3 years of my life there.

I've made a firm decision in my head about where to go but I've not updated it on UCAS yet. Though my uni did require me to send a reply to them saying if I was going to firm them or not ASAP...which was strange. But I've sent that back so I've 'firmed' them in a way I guess.

That is weird. I don't think it's official unless you do it on UCAS.

I agree with this, mostly. Especially for conditional offer holders, where it might be the case that you'll know more about your chances of making certain offers closer to the time. The flip side is for unconditional offer holders like myself, where it can be better for your state of mind to firmly know what it is that you're doing and to officialise it as early as possible. For conditional offer holders it might similarly be motivating to know 'right I HAVE to work my hardest in the next few months so I get my XXX for YYY.

This said, I'll probably firm my choice like a week before the deadline :tongue:

Maybe they just assume because they are Cambridge, you'll firm them.

But why do they need written confirmation of it well before the UCAS deadline?

Wow. Nice to know some admissions staff are happy to break UCAS rules. If you want you could report them either to UCAS or central admissions at Cam for this "requirement". It's very much out of order.

You aren't obliged to respond. If you tell them you'll firm/won't firm then you CANNOT be held to that. If you don't respond then they can't hold that against you. The only binding decision is that sent via UCAS.

Hmm didn't know it was a UCAS rule. I have every intention of firming them anyway, but it does seem a bit off. They didn't specify a date, just 'ASAP' if that makes it any better?
