To people who DON'T drink alcohol

Well I'm incredibly antisocial and I'd never be in a party. If a drug stopped that and exaggerated all parts of my personality, I'd probably start arguing with everyone about literally everything and generally be very, very annoying.

All that will change at university :yep:

Oh don't give me that, if you don't socialise at university you won't enjoy it.

Have you not seen the amount of threads saying ''first year of uni and have no friends''

Surely you have friends at the moment?

Firstly, socialising and going to parties are not the same thing, you can do one without the other. Secondly, I have people I get along with but no particularly close friends and that's fine. I'm not a sociable person but I am friendly and I'm happy with that - I don't want to constantly be around people but I'm more than happy to have a conversation which suits everyone just fine.

Well I'm just waiting for the day when you post a thread along the lines of '' No one in my flat invites me out anywhere :frown: ''

But your loss

Lol I definitely won't, I don't whine about personal problems. Anyway I'd hate to be invited out... I probably wouldn't go. Not entirely sure you understand what it's like to have Aspergers :/

What gave it away?!
I don't drink alcohol that often because I don't like the taste of it, it gives me horrible hangovers and I prefer to spend my money on other things.

this isn't a joke man you really need to get out because i'm scared people in similar situations might turn into the next columbine killers because they feel socially rejected

Well as I don't have aspergers no...

I didn't even know you had it, that's really surprising, I guess communicating online is a lot easier. Sorry to hear it sounds like it must be hard socialising

I don't feel socially rejected, I'm absolutely happy with how I am. I'm not trying to be sociable, I genuinely don't want to be. I've got absolutely zero reason to hate people, virtually everyone I know is really nice... why would I want to go out shooting people?

Online is definitely easier although I'm pretty similar in real life, same lecturey style of talking. It is difficult socialising but I genuinely don't want to, it's not like I wish I were more sociable.

well i know its easy to hide away in a locked up little world where everyone else's opinions mean zilch, but come on, how can you actually enjoy life if you don't have any friends at all? i know there is the excuse of autism/asperges but two of my friends have autism and they still go out to parties and have a genuinely good time, while also getting top grades

Why?

Aren't you bored of seeing all your friends having a good time on the strip? You say you can have fun without alcohol but when everyone around you is drunk is it not just weird and awkward?

Don't you grow tiresome of the people achieving hedonism by simply engorging in the delicious elixir that is alcohol.

Have you ever let yourself loose and tried it? Being drunk can be really fun if moderated and you can still have a great healthy lifestyle.

Recent studies have actually pointed at alcohol being good for your health if consumed in moderation: http://www.psmag.com/health-and-behavior/truth-wont-admit-drinking-healthy-87891

So...... what are you waiting for?

:colone:

Just don't see the point in it. I do not have any alcoholic friends. The benefits of alcohol are an illusion caused by a reduction in neuronal connections in the brain.

Well I just have different things I'm interested in... I can get along fine with people, you probably wouldn't even know there's anything wrong with me if you met me, I'm just more interested in spending my own time doing things that interest me like reading and arguing about pointless things on TSR than spending it in informal social situations. Everyone's different, I also know people with Aspergers who are genuinely interested in being sociable but I'm just not like that. It's never caused me any problems and as I said, I'm perfectly happy. If I went to a party or something I'd be absolutely terrified.

how do you cover up the dull ache of loneliness then is what i am wondering
I don't drink alcohol because I don't like the taste. I prefer soft drinks. I've been drunk in the past and always regretted it the next day. Alcohol makes people act like idiots and bad situations (like fights and rape) can occur because people are intoxicated. I always find it a little sad when people make out that you need loads of alcohol to be social and have a good time. Having to rely on what's effectively a drug in order to make the conversation and laughs flow is pretty pathetic. Being drunk is a sign of wanting to suspend the reality around you, an escape from a life you're obviously not fully content with. I imagine a lot of the people on here who are saying how awesome being drunk is are still quite young, you'll grow out of it. Most of the people I know who were into that kind of thing when they were younger aren't anymore and those who still do it are looked down on as immature. There's nothing wrong with a drink or two but being drunk is something else.

Lmao, nice pseudo science.

Have you ever drunk/been drunk?

Drinking alcohol doesn't make you an alcoholic
