Do you agree every possible career is boring?

But everyone experiences boredom differently, and for different reasons. I understand the OP because I don't get excited about things and live much of my life in boredom, I often pretend to be interested in things I think I should be interested in because, well, I may as well lay down and die if I don't, hoping that if I fake it enough it'll become genuine. But it never does. I just accept now that we live to live, everything I do will be for survival and avoidance of pain because I don't truly know if I'm capable of real, meaningful enjoyment. If I found something I enjoyed doing more than anything else in the world and could do it as a career, I'd still probably get bored eventually. My brain is just wired like that.

However some people's brains are wired differently, they can find hidden joys and fascinations in things a lot of us can't, and can stay excited for longer without the excitement being as taxing on their bodies as it is for some of us. For some people the feeling of interest or pleasure sticks more, unlike with some of us where it's forgotten as quickly as it was experienced.

I'm sure that there are far more people lying somewhere between the two extremes. I doubt there are many people who are bored in every career they go into, and I doubt there are many who never experience boredom.
No. A lot of careers have some aspects that are boring, but it depends on the person.

Well a lot of it is data analysis but don't tell OP that

It is all boring, I am going to become a porn star or stripper
I don't think it's quite as simple as that. A lot of jobs have both very boring and very interesting aspects. For me, I don't mind putting in a lot of tedious work, as long as I know I get some sense of satisfaction at the end, like the fact I've been able to help someone or been able to save up enough money to go and do something I want to do. Also, it may be dependent on the kind of people you work with, the environment, how much variety there is in the job, etc.
I find the alternative, namely sitting on my arse, unspeakably boring - I would far prefer even a relatively dull job to no job at all.

I mean who really would find investment banking enjoyable.. some might say being a programmer is fun and they enjoy coding but in the real world it's very stressful and stress can't be enjoyable. So to conclude this academic article everyone on here is destined to be corporate slaves in white collar industries. You may even land a job paying 80k but if you think it won't cause you unbelievable stress you are wrong. And all those things you but with your money will be here rotting away and people will forget you.

Not all stress is qualitatively the same. The stress involved in racing to finish a deal which has to be done by midnight is different from the stress involved in drudging through meaningless paperwork from 9-5. The former definitely can be enjoyable.

I suppose, but I'm doing a different degree now. I love what I do but I just sometimes wonder what would have happened if Id confirmed a different course

None of you have provided any real counter argument. Yes being an RAF pilot doesn't sound boring, but think about the stress you will be under, you ****up once and that's it.

That is hardly every possible job you've covered there...

I mean I'm getting paid to go to Kenya and dart and collar African Wild Dogs. I wouldn't call that boring...

And this will be your life long career? Once you tag 10-20 dogs you will be bored

I think it would take more than that! When I get bored of wild dogs I can just move onto new species, or do a spot of data analysis etc

Lol I dunno maybe I'm just to deep for the average person. I think this whole work ethic thing has been drummed into our minds to the point we feel it's fun.

My pay is *******s if it helps :P
If you do a job that you don't like, then yes, it can be boring.

But if you're in a job that you enjoy then it shouldn't be boring, you should enjoy it.

Suggestion - find a new job.

There are different kinds of stress. I do rock climbing as a hobby, that can be stressful as hell but that doesn't stop it being enjoyable.
