Why do you wait till after marriage?

I think certain people get very emotionally attached with people they have sex with, I think there is that instinct in us all, but some peoples emotions are stronger, almost obsessive, so I think waiting till marriage is sort of a safe guard against forming strong emotion with someone who will not be with you/marry you. Knowing the person you are sleeping with is in love with you and has taken vows to you only is sort of guaranteeing yourself emotional stability.

This. I'd hate to sleep with someone and be dumped... I know it sounds corny, but to me, sex isn't just a physical act - it's emotional too, to be that physically close and trusting of someone. I wouldn't want to do that with someone who didn't care about me.

You guys apart from one are all ignoring the emotional aspect and how it breaks you.

what do you mean by " the emotional aspect and how it breaks you " ?
I'm a Christian.although I don't know whether I'm gonna get married or not,I still choose to wait.its not for religious issues or pressure.its more about the emotional outcomes of sleeping around.I think the regret that would come with the realisation that I've given it to someone who doesn't care about me would kill me.someone once told me that regret is like cancer,it eats you from the inside then kills you fully.I try to avoid it as much as I can.but this doesn't mean I don't live my life to the fullest.i do many things on impulse but not giving up my virginity.

When will you be close enough to be a nun instead?

I actually looked into it but for the first 2 years, we can't go outside and I wouldn't be able to survive that.

Do you know what? I'm a guy and I'm a virgin and I'm proud to say it. I'm happy with myself for not succumbing to peer pressure or how society thinks that men need to sleep around in order to look cool and tough. I think it's sad how men compete with each other in these worthless things. I have friends who tell me I'm 'missing out' but I don't care. I don't need to sleep around to have fun and never will. I expect my wife to be virgin too and so I'll also keep my side of the bargain. IMO guys who remain virgins till after marriage are the stronger ones as living in a society where there is constant temptation everywhere is extremely difficult, and I praise those who do not give in to those temptations. It takes a LOT of courage to do that. Especially when society is judging you 24/7. Well done for standing up for yourselves

Made my day thank you very much

My virginity is something I'm proud of and I'll never lose it for anyone except my spouse.

I respect myself enough to not sleep around as I can wait till marriage, I can control my desires and I'm not desperate/craving for sex. Personally I think it's disgusting the way people sleep around. Look at all the teenage pregancies, unwanted children, diseases that come from it. What do you gain from it? Not as much as you lose.

This has the stamp of the religiously indoctrinated all over it. How many times did I hear that 'people who engage in premarital sex do not respect themselves' drivel in church myself? They know how to work that line don't they?

I personally prefer to think of it this way: those who who engage in premarital, marital, or even post marital sex really enjoy sex. That is all.

And in this day and age someone who is careful about their behaviours can avoid unwanted pregnancy and contracting diseases. Heck, they have courses of treatment that could prevent the contraction of HIV as long as you are quick to get to A&E after exposure. It's all about taking care of yourself.

Anyway, personally I was religiously indoctrinated and so for my first 18 years I was convinced I would only sleep with my husband. Of course I have since come to realise that in this day and age that attitude is not necessary. And also, isn't it dumb assery to do things the way they were done thousands of years ago, when the bible was supposedly written? We have moved on.

And sex only holds as much emotional power as you allow it. I don't understand how having sex with someone casually is supposed to cut me up inside.

We always here why horny chavs and other people like AlphaLADs don't wait to have sex and I don't judge them either way as that's how they were brought up or view their morals...

but what what are your personal reasons for waiting to have sex until after marriage?

You're not better than anyone else, it's not cool to be a virgin, loser.

Awkward moment when I'm not even religious...

That's a cute excuse.

Wow, so it wasn't even a case of indoctrination? You just think those foolish things all on your own, and you are so entirely unaware of medical advances, technological advances, modern thinking and lack the ability to be open minded enough that you sneer at people who enjoy sex. That's even worse. You want to save your cherry for Mr Right and that's great for you, but don't label those of us who don't 'disgusting', or call our actions 'disgusting'.
People saying that it is because of their religion - do you watch porn and masturbate? Not judging anyone as I'm saving myself as well but i watch porn so does that really make sense?

Also, I'm waiting because i would like to marry a virgin, and i would expect that she would want the same. Most guts want to marry a virgin when they have slept with half of the women in the world.

I personally just don't see the appeal of a one night stand.

Well I have always been a Catholic but I kind of deviated of it a bit when I went to college. Then I was open to the idea of having sex providing I was in a serious relationship. I got a few failed relationships in college so I didn't lose my virginity then.

Then when I got to uni I got my first proper relationship and it still didn't feel right to do it so I didn't. The guy then broke up with me because I wouldn't put out and as I moved on with life I got to understand that this is all young guys want. They just want to sleep with as many girls as they can and maybe be 'virgin slayers' sometimes too.

On top of that, last year I got much closer to my religion and I just decided it was better to wait.

I think religion/upbringing is a big factor in this.

Along with some people being very "emotional" about sexual intercourse, I can see the fear of not wanting to be known as a whore/slut as well.

There are of course the opposite type of people who are promiscuous, form little emotional bond. Still fine. As long as humans are reproducing!

Would any of you perform oral sex on your partners or do you consider that as sex too?

And I wouldn't have sex before marriage purely because guys these days are just looking to 'hit it and quit it'. I want it to be special, I want it to be with one person and one person only. As there's an emotional part to it, anything else would hurt too much if the guy left.
I waited till my marriage night to have sex and I am not regretting it one bit. It's given me peace of mind in marriage and I think young people should make that choice.

I want to do the same. But as you know it's a trillion times harder for a guy to wait.
Hope you found that special person
Yep, I am presently married and happy with my hubby. I pray you're able to wait as you determined. I know it's hard to wait as a guy but just hold onto your resolve; refuse to bow to peer pressure, no matter how strong. One way to find help, in this regard, is to surround yourself with guys who have the same mindset as you.
Essentially my girlfriend wants to wait and I more than happy to
Because I like to think that 20 years from now I won't regret 'letting all those jerks get into my pants'. Also, I like to think that my husband would appreciate me 'only being his' which is a total cliche but hey, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone...
It's nothing religious. Just personal. I just can't imagine trusting more than one man like that.
Or maybe I have issues. I'm an insecure prude.

I can see where you are coming from. I've experienced similar, although I'm not religious at all. I don't intend to wait till marriage either. I'm yet to come across someone who is willing to wait for me or at least shares similar values so that is a bit of a worry I guess. Especially since I'm not getting any younger! But hey gotta be positive right?
