Islam urges justice, fairness toward non-Muslims: Ayatollah Khamenei

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says Islam has ordered Muslims to treat the followers of other religions with “fairness and justice.”
“What is seen in the world today is that powers and governments which claim to [advocate] fairness and justice do not observe any fairness and justice except within the bounds of their narrow, limited and cruel policies,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with representatives of religious minorities in Iran’s Parliament (Majlis).

The Leader pointed to the propaganda campaign against Muslims in Europe and the US and said, "What is at issue is not [the question] why the Muslims do not have the necessary freedom in most of these countries, but at issue is [the question] why the Muslims do not have any [sense of] physical safety."

Ayatollah Khamenei cited the Hollywood-made film, American Sniper, as an example and said it encourages Christian or non-Muslim youngsters to harass the Muslims as much as possible.Islam does not accept this approach, the Leader said, adding, “Islam believes in fairness.”Ayatollah Khamenei stated that Imam Ali, the first Imam of the Shias, has said a Muslim would not be blamed if they die of sadness over the harassment of a non-Muslim in a Muslim country. If a Muslim dies of this sadness, that person has died for the right cause, the Leader pointed out.The Leader said young neo-Nazis have on several occasions beaten up and killed Muslims and damaged mosques with impunity.Ayatollah Khamenei cited the instance of young Arab Muslim girls who have been beaten up or even killed because of their hijab and nobody even bothered to investigate the issue. The Leader added that similar cases also exist in other countries which claim to defend human rights, including the US.Ayatollah Khamenei said after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, there is no record of aggression by Muslims against non-Muslims

Ali Ibn Abi Talib a.s was the cousin of Muhammed pbuh, and chosen as his rightful successor. He partook in many of the islamic battles of self defense, as well as personally being brought up by Muhammed pbuh -and being the only man born in the Ka'Ba.

Here are words he is reported to have said(historically):

"Remember, Maalik, that amongst your subjects there are two kinds of people: those who have the same religion as you have; they are brothers to you, and those who have religions other than that of yours, they are human beings like you. Men of either category suffer from the same weaknesses and disabilities that human beings are inclined to, they commit sins, indulge in vices either intentionally or foolishly and unintentionally without realizing the enormity of their deeds. Let your mercy and compassion come to their rescue and help in the same way and to the same extent that you expect Allah to show mercy and forgiveness to you".

Letter 53 - To Malik Al Ashtor for Governance
Nahajul Balagaha

The United Nations has advised Arab countries to take Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (AS) as an example in establishing a regime based on justice and democracy and encouraging knowledge. The UNDP in its 2002 Arab Human Development Report, distributed around the world, listed six sayings of Imam Ali (AS) about ideal governance. They include consultation between the ruler and the ruled, speaking out against corruption and other wrong doings, ensuring justice to all, and achieving domestic development. The UNDP said most regional countries are still far behind other nations in democracy, wide political representation, women's participation, development and knowledge. Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (AS)'s sayings: The UNDP quoted the following sayings of Imam Ali (AS) in its 2002 Arab Human Development Report:

There was a time when Islamic Scholarship was a leading torch bearer of knowledge and a shining example to the world where the Scholars of this Ummah had mastered both Islamic knowledge and secular sciences producing some of the greatest minds and free-thinkers in human history that transformed societies and nations! People from all over the globe would look towards the Muslim world for guidance & progress in both religious and secular knowledge. Muslim civilizations flourished when the entire Ummah benefited from the diversity of the great works of our Scholars, and adapting & embracing foreign influences within the confines of the Sharia.

Today however the Ummah excels in secular sciences, we have Muslims leading in the field of medicine and engineering, but only a handful of open-minded Scholars that specialise both in Islamic knowledge and secular sciences. The narrow-mindedness of 'sectarianism' and 'appeal to authority' who may not be qualified to give verdicts in secular and foreign issues has left many to develop a strict-conservative Islam that hinders the very heritage & principles of our faith.

Then there are those who profess themselves as Muslims (which by definition means to submit to the Will of Allah), yet their liberal views leave everything to their intellects and whatever is the norm of the society becomes their religion even if it goes against the very basic teachings of Islam.

How can the Ummah ever revive the great legacy of the past and return back to the conservative yet liberal heritage of our Scholars?

Join Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in this unique & inspiring talk as he performs 'bloodless brain surgery' of the Muslim mind unlocking our great legacy of a free-thinking Ummah through the lens of orthodox Islam.

An exhilarating talk not to me missed!!

Can't choose so I will cheat and say both.

Giving food is a short term solution for hunger/poverty while education is a long term one. I think most people donate for food because it is the immediate need (and they might starve to death :frown: ) but education is extremely important too.

Someone once said: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

Eventually, we're going to have to empower the poor to support/feed themselves.

Food. You can survive without education but not without food/water.

I don't like maths sis. Every other subject I'll tolerate but maths!

Oh well if it is Islamic knowledge then we take this question to the scholars ha ha. Is it better to give food or money for Islamic education? Allah knows best. If it's casual education, I much rather save lives. Insha'Allah, lets just give to both one day.

Education. 10,000 people may die without food for the education but in the end, you maybe able to eradicate starvation forever. Instead of feed some people for a short time period, then let the starvation resume.

I guess it's a gamble I would be willing to take.

Also you probably save 50k on education, but you could make that within 2 years if you got a good degree.

No I love maths come on :frown: Maths is used in everyday life

Jazak Allahu Khayran for all your responses

The purpose of asking this question was that I'd like to raise money for Zawiah (The madrassa I attend ) and to me I think money towards books and educating the young society is beneficial. Whereas there are many people in general who give to charity anyway

JazakAllah Khair for your write up and explanation, it was very good. I assume 513 AD is meant to be 613?

Also, could you explain a little about the paragraph above? Perhaps quote the verses and explain so it's a little clearer for me, JazakAllah Khair ukhti.

Jazak Allahu Khayran to you too for taking your time to read it
Yes sorry about that typo
Brother from verse 28 onwards this is highlighted '...Therefore the discourse turns to the affirmation of Tawhid and the refutation of shirk, and it is stressed that the natural way of life for man is none else but to serve Allah.'
Shirk is opposed to the nature of the universe as to the nature of man. therefore, wherever man has adopted this deviation, chaos has resulted. again here, an allusion has been made to the great chaos that had gripped the world on account of the war between the two major powers of the time, and it has been indicated that this chaos too is the result of shirk, and all the nations who were ever involved in mischief and chaos in the history of mankind were also polytheists.

I understand why maths is hated by many but it's not hard if you have a good teacher (coming from someone who had to take extra tuition for A' level math cuz the teacher at school wasn't sufficient)...

Btw, Ali (RA) was a great mathematician.

It's from Hasan al-Basri:

“The life of this world is made up of three days: yesterday has gone with all that was done; tomorrow, you may never reach; but today is for you so do what you should do today.”

On the authority of Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
Allah (mighty and sublime be He) said: Truly of those devoted to Me the one I most favor is a believer who is of meager means and much given to prayer, who has been particular in the worship of his Lord and has obeyed Him inwardly1, who was obscure among people and not pointed out, and whose sustenance was just sufficient to provide for him yet he bore this patiently. Then the Prophet (ﷺ) shook his hand and said: Death will have come early to him, his mourners will have been few, his estate scant.1 i.e. he has not been ostentatious in his obedience. It was related by at-Tirmidhi (also by Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Ibn Majah). Its chain of authorities is sound.
SubhanAllah: On the authority of Masruq, who said:We asked Abdullah (i.e. Ibn Masud) about this verse: And do not regard those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead, rather are they alive with their Lord, being provided for (Quran Chapter 3 Verse 169). He said: We asked about that and the Prophet (pbuh) said: Their souls are in the insides of green birds having lanterns suspended from the Throne, roaming freely in Paradise where they please, then taking shelter in those lanterns. So their Lord cast a glance at them (1) and said: Do you wish for anything? They said: What shall we wish for when we roam freely in Paradise where we please? And thus did He do to them three times. When they say that they would not be spared from being asked [again], they said: O Lord, we would like for You to put back our souls into our bodies so that we might fight for Your sake once again. And when He saw that they were not in need of anything they were let be. (1) i.e. at those who had been killed in the cause of Allah. It was related by Muslim (also by at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah)
