Vauxhall Astra 1.4 2008 - Good car for a 17 year old

It would be the perfect car for me, but does anyone know if the insurance would be sky high for this one?
Yeah I think 1.4 is quite high, I am 17 and my ford K.A 2006 costs me £1300 and it is only 1.2. My advice would be to start low and build your no claims up before getting a fancy car.

The insurance is going to sky high for all new/young drivers.

I know someone that had to pay £4k for one years insurance because they were a young driver.

By the time you come back to read the replies to this you could have plugged your details into a comparison site and done the research yourself.

In what universe is a 1.4l Vauxhall Corsa a fancy car?

If you look at a corsa, take a look at ford focus and fiestas - there insurance is usually low

As FXX said it'd probably worth bunging some details into a comparison site and it will give you a good estimate of what it will cost depending on the car, many will require a black box for young drivers to keep the costs down.

1.4 engine could cost an eyeball in insurance.

Its a common misconception that all cars with a 'large' engine size are expensive to insure. My first year of insurance was on a 1.6, and it was cheaper to insure than many 1.2 and 1.4 engined cars.

Look around for quotes and do not just focus on Astra's, look at even cars you wouldn't want due to the engine or expecting a high insurance, you may be surprised.

For me , my 1.2 polo is more expensive to insure then the 1.4/1.6 civics.

In general though the quotes are usually higher for a bigger engine but it does depend on the car.

As someone else said the only way for OP to know is to go on a price comparison website and get some quotes.

You should not take that too literally, I merely wished to convey that the Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 would not be perhaps the best car to begin with at 17. Perhaps you disagree but I do wish for you to express yourself less aggressively.

yeah but the process is long and wearisome especially since im going to second driver it, so i have to put up my dads details and all his points and whatever bull****

ill probably end up look at insurance prices closer to the time, currently the only things that look tolerable is a 2009+ fiesta, 2011+ Polo, 2007+ Astra or a honda civic

You're 17, not an 80 year old nun.

Indeed, that does not justify your tone.

It probably would be a lot, but the area you live in has a lot to do with it. I'm from quite a rough area - I'm 20 and pay £2,700 for a 1.4 Corsa (with a telematic box). Once I hit 21 and get 1 year NCB under my belt (in July), the price is going to fall to about £1,300.

But from the outset, the area I live in makes my premiums high by default. I've ran quotes in more decent areas than mine and the insurance is half what I'm paying now.

So I guess it depends. Add a name driver who has had their licence for at least 10 years - the policy should come down by at least £500.

It depends on the area you're from, but given your age, I think you should expect to pay between £2,500-£3,000 to be honest.
