As a resident of Swansea let me try and explain. The student village is at Hendrefoilan about 1.5 miles walk to the Singleton Park Campus. The bus takes 5-10 minutes at the most. If you like walking you can and indeed many do. It is easier walking from the campus to the uni as is slightly downhill. It is in an extremely nice neighbourhood as is the campus itself. However due to the new campus being opened in Sept many of houses in the village will be closed and sold. The remainder will close the following September. These are being replaced at the Bay campus. It is planned 900 rooms will be open is September with a further 500+ will open the following September. The new campus is approx 4 miles away on the Eastern side of town. It is approximately 2.5 miles from town. The distance between the current campus and the city is about 1.5 miles. On a nice day if is a lovely 30 minute or so walk alongside the sea for most of the way. Buses run regularly and normally take about 10 minutes however this has been longer recently due to roadworks which wilthel have ended by the time you arrive.

The new campus will house the schools of Engineering and Management. The other subjects will remain at Singleton.
There are numerous foreign students in Swansea. Talking to them as bus passes the village it seems a lot do engineering but most of them love Swansea

Visit websiteFurther to the above I can not understand how anyone could say it takes 40 minutes on a bus from Henderefoilan to Singleton Park. It doesn't take much longer than that to travel to Cardiff. You could walk it quicker than that.
The current campus is surrounded by a very large park which has a botanical garden and a boating lake and is right across the road from the sea. The bay sweeps round towards Mumbles and is gorgeous when lit up at night. The new campus will direct beach access although it is not in stunning parkland like the current one. The village is set in its own grounds and its entrance is tree lined. This is set Killay village which is known locally to be an upmarket area of Swansea. It has a small shopping complex, doctors surgery, library a number of pubs. It is a 5-10 minute walk from the village .
Buses go from the entrance of the village into the city centre approx. 20 minutes and the fabulous Gower beaches appox 40 minutes away

From what I got, the Hendrefoilan village will be sold and student accomodation will be located either in Bay or Singleton campus, am I right? yes but not totally next year. That will be year Sept. Next Sept some of the houses will remain. Speak to the uni accommodation office and get more advice on this. The area the village is in is very much sought after for housing so the uni are selling it to help pay for the new campus. Sketty/Killay really is a nice area and the houses being built will be upmarket and costly but it is the same developer who is doing the new campus. They will not knock student houses down until replacements are ready on the new campus so there will still be student houses in the village next year just not so many. The first 900 on the new site are in the process of being built and are nearly complete so they will demolish the older houses at the bottom of the village first. If I was you I would stay either in Singleton or the village. The Bay Campus wont be of use to you doing Geography. Mind you where the original campus lies is stunning to.

Construction update at Swansea University's new Campus site. Swansea University’s £450m beach-front second campus which is currently under construction on a 65-acre former BP site will create around 12,000 permanent jobs by 2020.
That is the prediction of the university’s vice-chancellor Professor Richard B Davies who added at the “Bay Campus” construction site today: (fri)”It will transform this region from the heavy industry economy of yesterday to the hi-tech, knowledge economy of tomorrow”.
It is estimated the development of the new campus on a 65-acre site on the Neath side of the border with Swansea off Fabian Way, the main eastern approach road to Swansea, will pump £3bn into the Swansea Bay economy over the next decade.
It overlooks Mumbles Head and the coasts of Neath, Port Talbot and Porthcawl with Devon and Cornwall in the distance.
It will house almost 900 student room and will feature an “innovation hub”, a manufacturing centre, a materials research laboratory, a great hall and library, shops, cafes and bars.
University officials along with representatives of site developer St Modwen and various building contractors gathered at the site this morning to give an update on the ambitious science and innovation centred project which has already secured research and development partnerships with major manufacturers including engineering giant Rolls Royce, aerospace specialists BAE Systems and glass firm Pilkington.
Rupert Joseland, South Wales Regional Director of St Modwen, said the construction work was on schedule and would be ready for staff and the new intake of students by September 2015.
An artist's impression of Swansea University's Science and Innovation Campus He added: “Over the past six months we have made significant progress, with the manufacturing of the new SMaRT building (manufacturing testing facility) complete and framing of the £32m Engineering Manufacturing Centre close to completion.“We are also underway with construction on the new student accommodation, which when finished will comprise 899 new rooms built around internal courtyards with social spaces.”
Professor Davies said he expected 6,000 permanent jobs to be created when the university was up and running and he said the figure could grow to 11,000 or 12,000 by 2020.
And he added: “That is without the extra jobs and investment that could come from involvement at the site from private companies.
“The campus will have the distinction of being one of the few global universities with direct access onto a beach and its own seafront promenade when complete.
“The Campus will provide academic, student accommodation and research space, the latter being in a series of agreements with international and national companies.”
St Modwen is developing the Bay Campus with building contractor, VINCI Construction UK and Swansea University’s framework contractor Leadbitter, a Bouygues company. Working on the Singleton Campus, since 2010, Leadbitter has been contracted to construct the Innovation Hub and the ESRI (Energy Safety Research Institute) Building on the Bay Campus. Foundation work commenced earlier this month

Hi, the geography course will not be taught at the new campus! the student village won't be lived in in 2015! but if you're looking for cheaper accommodation then i have a room to rent in a student house that is a 10 minute walk from the univeristy and all the existing house mates study geography too!

This is to reduce the overall cost, as the annual residence fees at the new Bay Campus will cost : £5040, whereas the dual residence fees will cost : £4462.00.
The only thing that worries me is the bus time from Hendrefolean Student Village to the Bay Campus in my first term. If it means arriving late at the lectures, I wonder if it's worth the money saved.

for what its worth I would be surprised if it takes that long outside the morning and evening rush hours. I would suspect there will be buses linking hendrefoilan and the bay campus with singleton park and possibly st davids and it shouldn't take that long if that happens. basically the journey from henderfoilan to singleton is about 10 minutes the city centre is 1O minutes away and the bay campus is approx. 10 minutes from there. these buses I would suspect will not stop at every stop

I don't think they are fully completed yet. I went passed about a month ago and whilst it was built the scaffolding was still up. the latest article I saw
was that they would be ready by September. there tend to be regular articles on wales online and south wales evening post and search using Swansea university

50 minute bus ride?! 
would take me like 15 in the car. Takes me hardly any time to drive to HSV, longer on the bus obviously. Pass the bay campus regularly, it's looking good

no but I have lived here all my life and know the area and the bus services extremely well. there is absolutely no way it should take 50 minutes and I dont think it is 7.5 miles more like 5 or maybe 6

I had an interview up there because the IELTS building is there. Not been in actual accommodation rooms though because I don't know anyone that lives there.
the village is in a very nice area of Swansea. half the village is closing this year to be replaced by private housing. when the second phase is operational the rest of the village will also be turned to private housing. I think the older part will close first then the newer part.

As mentioned above, we are offering some students the opportunity to stay at Hendrefoelan Student Village for the first semester and then move to the Bay Campus for the second semester once the second phase of the new Bay Campus accommodation is open. I am due to start studying MEng Mechanical Engineering at Swansea this September. I have just applied for accommodation and have Bay Campus as my first choice. Does anybody know:
- What's the likelihood of me obtaining my first choice re. accommodation?;
- How easy is it to get to the Gower using public transport?;
- Am I able to bring my car to Swansea if I'm on Bay Campus (I know that this isn't an option in Singleton)?;
- Who else is planning to do the same course?!
