Clinical Science Group Interview

Hey guys,

Ive got a Clinical Science / Med foundation interview on 18th Feb. They say its going to be a group exercise. Does anyone know what its going to be about? and what they are gonna ask?

Thanks
On the day invited applicants will participate in a structured group activity and attend individual interviews.

The group activity will involve all applicants being split up into groups and each group will be given a task to complete. Academic members of staff will simply assess each group to see how each applicant is able to interact and work within a team environment.

Within the interview applicants will be asked a number of questions relating to their personal statement, UCAS application and career aspirations etc. Nothing too scary!

If you are interested in getting some more in-depth information about what to expect from the activities and interviews you’re welcome to contact our Admissions Department directly at [email protected]

The day is a fantastic opportunity for you to speak with other applicants, our current students and academic members of staff. We would also recommend you view our facilities and take a tour of our campus and accommodation.

Best of luck on the day and we hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for your reply. However this information contradicts a little bit with the one I was given after I called and emailed the Admissions Department upon receiving the invitation. They said it was just going to be
assessed group exercise. Which is also what Mr. Neil Turner said when he replied to my email. Taking your advice I will email them again.

Thanks anyway for clearing up my confusion.

Clinical Sciences combines scientific and laboratory techniques with inter-personal and professional development skills, for those wanting a career where they can use their science knowledge to help patients.

Biomedical Science is a more lab-focused course that looks at the biology of disease, providing an understanding of the causes and effects of human disease, the methods used in the study of human diseases and current and experimental treatments.

Hope you find this information helpful and if you need any additional assistance do let me know.

Thank you. Your reply was very helpful. I would be grateful if you were to answer another question; What specific jobs do graduates do after having done a degree in clinical sciences?

You’re welcome and I’m pleased you found the information helpful.

Not a problem; students who successfully complete their studies through the Leeds School of Medicine will be able to follow a career in medicine. Clinical Sciences is also a highly relevant degree for those students wishing to pursue graduate medicine opportunities.

Opportunities for Clinical Sciences graduates will reflect your balanced portfolio of clinical sciences, health studies and professional skills. Depending on your chosen pathway through the course, you will be able to embark on a graduate career within the NHS ranging from health sector management, primary care to specialist clinical scientists.

There will also be opportunities for some graduates to pursue their careers through programmes such as the NHS Leadership Academy Graduate Management Training Scheme. This intensive two-year, salaried programme of training and development aims to provide the next generation of NHS leaders.

Your personal and professional development throughout the Clinical Sciences course will provide you with the relevant competencies and attributes to compete for a place on one of these programmes.

The Pharmaceutical Industry also offers a wide variety of careers where you will be able to use your knowledge and skills to improve healthcare in the UK or worldwide. These include clinical trials, research and development, registration and regulatory affairs.

Clinical Sciences graduates who complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) may also pursue a career in teaching.

Graduates wishing to continue with their studies may consider registering for an MSc or MPhil/PhD programme.

Hope this information helps and let me know if you require any further assistance.

The main reason people apply for Clinical Science is for the medical transfer route. Student satisfaction is ridiculously low among those who remained on the course, especially last year having myself been made aware of the going-ons last year with various complaints being made.

I first encountered Clinical Science 5 years ago. Every year the trend has seemed the same. Students love it during Year 0 and 1. Transfer denied. Students hate it Year 2 and 3. Put it this way, how many people apply for the course purely for the content not interested in the transfer options? None.

Best course in the world if you manage the transfer though.
