but on the bad side- i think it would be hard to be a house in london or anywhere with that amount of money? kinda gonna be hard to treat yourself too not even taking into account rent too...

On his own that's the case. Could buy a house anywhere from Nottingham north though provider his wife has a similar salary.

£21,000 is enough of a salary for me to be able live a stable life with my family if I ever get one (a wife and no more than 2 kids)!! I fear I might not actually reach that salary :frown:!!

its not exactly difficult to achieve. unless youre retarded i dont see why you cant earn £21k in your life time

There are plenty of fields in which it's difficult to break the £20k barrier, even as a well-established professional. Being "retarded" doesn't really come into it.

Such as?

Edit
I'd be shocked if a 'well-established professional' took home less than 70% of the median wage...

Depends on your age, education etc. For someone a few years out of uni, I'd say £50k is good.
For a grad job, I'd say £30K+

For anyone, I'd say £80K+, I think £60K+ is pretty decent though.
400k-500k with bonuses...that's good

Probably what my dad earned mid-career: £80k per year.

It'd be OK to raise a family on but to afford luxuries I'd say what my dad earned before he passed away: £140k would be much better.

140k is better than 80k
750k is better than 140k
100k so when the government take 40% of my wages I still want a decent amount of money left.

Lol my plans to graduate medical school at 23, do two foundation years 25, do 5 years consultant specialism training then be on 72k at 30
yrs old
I have heard it said that 35k is enough for people to comfortably enjoy life. Everyone will always want more!
Don't live in London but on roughly £30k and life is easy.

After all bills, rent etc each month I have over £1k just sat there.

Saving for a deposit is boring though.

No kids makes a giant difference. Not planning on having them either. With kids I'd struggle.

Really not a fan of London either, I'd hate to live there.

Same I'm much more of a rural person.
Saying that most people who can afford to live in rural areas with high house prices are earning 30K +

What careers specifically? There aren't many careers where you can be earning that kind of money within 4-6 years. (Have no idea whether you're being sarcastic)

Investment Banking/Trading, Management Consulting and Investing (Hedge Funds or Private Equity).

I'm personally aiming for £130k+ by 30 I'm looking into strategy consulting, algorithmic trading or a software engineering job at a startup/top tech company.

I'm probably going to do an MBA (preferably at a top US school) in my mid-late 20s to try and move into private equity or more senior director roles at top companies.

What careers are you looking into?

Investment Banking M&A or another IBD role.

What career do you hope to go into to achieve that.
