F.Maths lessons at this point are our teachers doing whatever work they have to do and our self-teaching, asking for help if we need it. There are still two other people in my class, they just don't do F.Maths anymore (I'm really the only person in the school for whom it's actually important). They just decided to stay in the class anyway (it is a better class ).

I'm looking at working with some pretty cool tech/engineering companies during the ol' gap year, will hopefully apply to Cam assuming **** don't go wrong this year.

It's that EDT Year in Industry scheme someone on here linked me. I'm not guaranteed anything, I'm submitting my CV and being interviewed (hopefully), but there are places reserved for people on this scheme. There's a green, advanced ventilation company in Cambridge that looks great, a diverse tech company in St. Ives (Cambridgeshire) that looks awesome (small company, like 30 people), and a few other places I've applied to. Haven't heard back about interviews for anyone yet.

That sounds pretty cool, I'd much much much prefer that. Can choose modules then. Plus it would mean I could stop going to lessons after a few weeks

I'll be applying to NatSci, or Physics at Bath/York. I had a full list of 5 months ago, but I've forgotten the other two I was considering

I'm on a Year in Industry scheme that attaches me to vacancies that I would like to apply to: I've sent CVs to this ventilation company called Breathing Buildings, they were who I was really interested in at first (green tech!), but there's also this diversified engineering company called 42 Technology; they look very fun to work for.

Of course if I don't get anything from that, I have no recourse but to move back to Australia, which wouldn't be the worst thing: the University of Queensland has the Bachelor of Advanced Science degree, which also looks very good. I'd be happy doing that - I could always return to the UK for postgrad.

What have you been doing? Uni offers?

I'm pretty glad I wasn't able to just push through my issues and get good grades anyway, since they definitely would have ****ed me during the application process.

Now tho, I'm ready to take on the world

Does anyone else here get sudden bursts of excitement when you realise you'll be leading a completely different lifestyle in just a few months? Like I'll be switching, not only cities, but countries! And the uni experience is going to be great!

Nah, it's not the new unconditional schemes they have in English unis. He got 5 As at Higher last year so met the entry reqs for 1st year entry (degrees in Scotland are 4 years).

Seriously, what is NatSci? I've only heard of people on TSR applying to it. Bath looks really cool! I'm fiddling with the idea of adjustment to them.

Fair enough, I imagine you'll be paying the Australian tuition rate - the international student rate looks horrific. Melbourne is a solid uni too.

School, running a startup I started last summer at MIT, doing gigs, more school, working at Three. Yeah, I got offers to do Computer Science from Nottingham, Reading and Lancaster (rejected by Loughborough and Edinburgh).

I've currently firmed Nottingham (AAB offer) and insured Reading (unconditional offer).

Other than the placement, any other plans for the gap year?

Yeah, definitely! There are so many things I'm looking forward to in England there was a power cut today where I live and I know that this hardly ever happens in England and even if it does, people get compensation. I would have been so rich then if we got compensation :P
Having total and complete freedom is also really exciting, and my parents won't be able to do anything about it even if they really wanted to. I also look forward to meeting people for whom the main priority in life is not getting as drunk as possible just for the sake of looking "cool".

Ooooh, you don't get to choose modules? No likey. I looked at S2 and was like "nope ty".

Natural Sciences It's how Cambridge does science: you don't do a Physics or Biology degree, you do a Natural Sciences degree, in which you choose modules relating to what you want to do (you could go physics + biology + computer science in first year if you wanted to; you can specialise in later years).

Oh Manchester, forgot about them, that's definitely one of my choices So are you thinking about firming KCL? When I said King's I meant King's College, Cambridge, and I think there was some confusion there.
