How do you test it? Like to do you have to sit formal examinations or can you just do online tests? (and what testing system is it?)

Well you can try to pass a DELE test to have an official certificate. I don't have one, but I go to a bilingual school with classes taught in Spanish etc and my school cooperates with a DELE center and we've had some meeting with exam officials and such, so I know that it's quite easy for me to take care of a B2 test while a C1 might be a stretch, thus I said I was B2-C1 :P But in my case it's self-assessed.

I see. I've had a look at the C1 test, doesn't seem too bad but definitely not easy! A fair bit of slightly more specialised vocabulary in there. I've had a listen to the example audio and I can't believe how long it is hahaha, that exam would be torture only being able to hear it twice and having to concentrate for that long.

Can you take the test if you have done A-Level Spanish? I got the impression you couldn't on the website, but I don't see why doing A-Level should prohibit you.

I don't live in the UK, so I'm not familiar with A-Levels, but as far as I know DELEs are organized by the Spanish Department of Education and have nothing to do with the rest of your qualifications, your education etc. Everyone can take the test (for a fee) and if you pass it, it's for life.
