I still can't understand why people keep saying the BBC will go down the drain because of Top Gear. No they won't... They get money from tv license, plus do you really think that one of the biggest news stations for this country (and pretty much the world) will all come to an end because of one show and one pathetic excuse for a man?

The BBC is nothing without Top Gear. Millions of people in this country hate the garbage the Socialist Propaganda Corporation churns out, with the exception of Top Gear.

License Fee non-payment is already set to be decriminalised. Expect calls to abolish it altogether to go rise considerably, and expect those calls to be heard by the possible UKIP-Tory government. :smile:

Yes millions of people watch Top Gear, but in comparison to those who don't it's not a lot. The BBC will survive. It survived after the outbreak with the pedophile scandals (and they're still going) so what makes you think because of one arrogant man it'll all go down the drain? lol. The BBC provides us all with news, so I highly doubt they'll end :smile:

It's amazing how many people think that the BBC is socialist...

It's the most watched show on earth, it might not be what's keeping the BBC on air but the shares will have taken a hit.

Which ones though? An awful lot of the "controversies" in the past have actually been very minor things that don't really matter, like jokes and light hearted comments. The only genuinely bad one I can think of before this incident with the producer was the comment about striking workers, and even that was just a joke in very poor taste.

The petition includes "Freedom to fracas." Getting involved in a fracas (physical disagreement) is what Clarkson did. So one million people agree that small physical disagreements aren't a serious issue.

The mood against the invasion of Iraq was pretty much universal in this country but only a million expressed it. We could probably extrapolate the same for Clarkson fans.

With Iraq, there were a small group of deranged liberal interventionists who wanted to go along. And that same group of deranged liberal interventionists (i.e. Guardian readers) now wanted Clarkson to be sacked.

So back then, there was perhaps 70% of the country against it, 20% strongly for it. I think we could probably, reasonably, extrapolate the same numbers of support for this issue. 70% like Clarkson, 20% loathe him. They loathe him becauase he is everything that they're not: manly and courageous, and right-wing. Unfortunately the shrill minority controls the BBC.

I entirely agree. Clarkson was already on thin ice for his other infractions, and this is an absolutely justifiable decision for an employer to take in respect of an uncontrollable, unstable employee.

Luckily for the BBC they are simply declining to renew his contract so they are watertight in terms of liability.

I was pretty surprised at the way some people tried to defend Clarkson's behaviour and assert that he should be allowed to physically attack people because his show has good ratings.

Apparently he's doing a deal with Netflix, but I suspect people will be surprised at just how well Top Gear does without Clarkson.
