Hey I'm really sorry I've never heard of it, and I actually left Strathclyde last year lol. I'll ask about though, however it's getting to the stage where even the people I know are starting

Oh sorry,

Didnt realise you had left. Im just a bit unsure about what I want to do at the minute and want to get my UCAS decision right...

So in your personal opinion ... would you pick a traditional/specialised course like Accounting at a uni like GCU or UWS going into year 3 ... or would you take any business course that interested you at SBS because it is so good there, going into year 1?

I know there are many variables from person to person but I got this counter offer from Strathclyde which is really my dream uni to go to but unsure on going for a new (untested) course, just curious as to what someone else would do in my shoes lol :danceboy:

Hey! I'm currently coming to the end of my 2nd year in the business school. I've not heard of the course, however I know what you mean by being a bit unsure about an untested course.. I'm doing Business Enterprise as one my major subjects & it's just been totally restructured this year - new assignments, different content and a new lecturer. Whilst there's a few glitches, it's brilliant! The name of the Business School will give you so much more standing than even if you get a first elsewhere! It's just whether you can grit your teeth a little if things are a bit pear-shaped. If you have any questions that I may be able to help you out with, feel free to ask. All the best!

Hi there!

Business Enterprise is the class I was thinking of specialising in as well! Whats the story, is it as good as it sounds? Meeting successful business owners and competing in group challenges etc.

The BBA contains the Leadership Development programme which is equivalent to the MDP. Are you taking the LDP or MDP and if so what is that like?

Why is Strathclyde the number 1 school for entrepreneurship in the UK? I have 100 business ideas per day but I perhaps lack direction/conviction in these ideas lol

Morning! Yeah, Business Enterprise is like no other subject in SBS. It's a 'creative' subject, but creativity and innovation can also be taught (so theres no requirement). In first year you set up a stingy business from £20 and profit you make is given to Yorkhill Childrens Hospital! Its a great experience and something to put on CV.

You do get a chance to network, they host quite a few events. They also bring in external speakers, all of whom are successful but you'll learn that behind one success is many failures! It's actually beyond just setting up a company etc, it's more about the creativity in 2nd year I'd say, although you get to take part in a trade show and the assignments are completely original!

Wow thats amazing if you have so many ideas! Well the Enterprise class will help give you ideas as to whats needed to complete an idea and make it tight & 2nd year gives you the skills to create a business plan, thats not a business plan haha! The lecturer uses a new and better technique that is less projections and guesswork orientated. Also, the Hunter Centre (department for BE) has a hub which is to help turn ideas into businesses, they provide help and you still remain in 100% ownership or with a group etc.

I'm doing MDP, I've not heard of LDP if I'm honest! If your first main subject is a business one then you have to do MDP. I'm sure you've researched about it & yes employers love it but really, you have to do a little work for it every/other week depending what year you're in and sometimes it's useful but most of the time it doesn't teach you much. Don't let that put you off though because you're always in groups and 9/10 times you get on and have a bit of banter even during class which can make your day! Plus, it's a huge win with employers.

Sounds really good thanks, I think this fits my personality more than Accounting to be honest but I now need to decide if I want to skip on going straight into 3rd year elsewhere, reducing debt (as mentioned by the helpful person who started this chat) and graduating quicker (possibly risking a poor grade though due to the jump from HND to 3rd year uni level) or start from the beginning at Strathclyde but getting to do something I think I would really enjoy and have a better chance of getting a first or 2:1 from a top school and get the benefit of experiencing the entire university life. I am not a mature student but I am 22 and eager to get to work again ... just not for a crap job and preferably I would work for myself lol Decisions eh?!

Glad I could help!

Well, in all honesty, the way I made my choice between Strath and Glasgow uni (where 1st and 2nd year is generic) i thought about how we'll be working until we die tbh and so to follow happiness before money or anything else. Strathclyde is amazing for specialisation whereas Accounts may leave you a bit stranded (whether in SBS or elsewhere as the pathway is seperate to BA Business).

I also have to say that Strath definately are prefered by certain employers with companies like Proctor and Gamble (amongst many) coming specifically to seek out Strath grads. A 2:1 at Strath will put you above a 1st from most other unis (not Glasgow).

And yeah, Enterprise at Strath teaches you a lot about refining business ideas or even creativity in general - and if that fits your personality I would say go for that. No where else offers anything like it and it's useful whether you want to set up your own company or not.

Thanks ! What is Forbes hall like ??

Posted from TSR Mobile

I stayed in chancellors this year and its been fab, friends stay in forbes and its just as good! I’d say all the halls are great because being in the student village is so handy and lively!
UWS?

Good luck. If I was you I'd try to get more details about uws as you might not fit in. Do you like to use your brain?

If all you want is a degree, a piece of paper to hang on the wall then this place is ideal for you. You won't bother at all, group work is a joke, lecturers are socially awkward, you WILL experience hostility if you try to engage with lecturers outside classroom, like if you knock on their office's door or ask a question related with your course when you meet any of them in the corridors. An absolute joke this uni. The relevance of the materials offered is as low as newspaper articles from the Scottish Sun and the Daily Record (these are Scottish tabloids by the way). As a matter of fact these are common references on the "lectures". A lecture is a powerpoint slideshow where the lecturer reads through about nothing or about potatoes and facebook and celebrities. All what 90% of the students want when they attend a lecture is to sign the register as attendance is basically the only criteria for you to get your degree.

Intellectual stimulus and challenging attitudes? If this is you or if you are looking for this, then look elsewhere. This uni is a perfect business model on how to make money from fees from idiots like me and thousands that fall for the fantastic corporate marketing policies they have. You WILL feel deceived if you come here. All these people want is to make money from thousands of undergraduate (remember £1820 per head per year given to this place by SAAS not to mention the RUK and the International students who pay 5 times more - from their own pockets) and postgradute students.

If you want to learn skills to survive outside after graduating go elsewhere. You have been warned. Good luck

Hi this thread is about Strathclyde university, not UWS I think you may have posted in the wrong place. If you're replying to a user in this thread can you quote if it's relevant otherwise this post seems out of place. Thanks.
Hi, I'm not sure how active this thread is nowadays, but I figured I'd give it a try. I just wanted to ask one question - how much free time would you say you need to be properly involved in societies? I'm going to be a fresher in September and I'll be living off-campus, so my means of getting to know new people will be somewhat limited. I'll also be working part-time, so I'm kind of concerned about time management - I'd love to join a society, but I also don't want my schoolwork to suffer.

Thanks

Hiya, I was in exactly the same boat. I lived in South side and was working in a call centre Mon Tue nights Sunday all day. I think it really depends on what you're studying. I studied law so I was very rarely in scheduled classes. So I was able to join Archery. I was on the committee for three years, I was heavily involved in the union; policy council, communication committee, strathguides, welcome team etc. I still ended up with a 2:1 at the end of my degree so it's definitely do-able. Also I think you'll find there is quite a few people who live at home who go to strath. At least that's what I found. Anything else let me know :h:

Hey there!
I'm an international student who applied for 2015/16 entry a month ago, and I was wondering how long it took you to get your offer?
Strath is my top choice and I want to know quickly so I can get my UK passport (I'm a citizen) and get all my American financial aid figured out.
How is International Business course too? That's what I'm applying for. Thanks so much

Hey - sorry for the late reply - I am not on TSR as frequently anymore. I should think that you have received your offer by now?

I have changed to BA (Honours) in Economics and Management Science because the languages have got a bit confusing, but if you have any questions about course outline in general still, just let me know and I happily answer

Hiya, unfortunately I've never heard of Clyde house. Sorry.

In general the halls are all on campus and really close to the library and lecture theatre. Birkbeck is slightly cheaper and better known as more of a party hall. Murray hall is the only one which isn't apartments and is long corridors with common rooms and a big shared kitchen. The posher ones are Chancellors and another which name I forgotten and they are all ensuites. The halls are near a large Aldi and a sainsbury's in the opposite direction. They all have new washing machines which were put in this year I think. Also todds bar which is right in the middle of the "student village" is really cheap and has a good atmosphere. Then you have the student union on campus and whole load of bars and clubs in glasgow.

Anything else let me know :h:
@lyrical_lie as i ll be doing a post graduate degree i have james goold, andrew ure and pattrick thomas court...or private accomodation is a better option according to you! As ill be coming from a different country ! i do want to socialize! please let me know the best option according to you! thanks

Which is the real reputation? How are the job prospects for postgrad graduates? Which university will you recoment for finance?
