x=Asin(nt+δ)x = Asin(nt + \delta) makes it pretty easy.

(all SHM can be described using that equation, or the same using cos)


There are a few more equations in our M3 textbook that must be learnt also :frown:

Plus our teacher used omega instead of n, which got confusing once we used angular displacement rather than normal displacement :redface:

All you need to remember is

wax if you cba deriving in head

= w²(a²_0 - x²)

And the rest you can just get from the general equation

True (although isnt it a2 - x2 )

At least the SHM in the physics course is very basic compared to M3, should help a lot

Also it'd make sense because when x is amplitude, velocity is 0,so it falls into place

Starting to think I made a big mistake taking M3, especially because I have to resit M2 and I can't even get my head around that anymore :redface:

All you ever need, is a diagram with everything labelled

Every question has a way of going it

Eg rigid bodies/statics (Rachel knows I always use this as an example lol)

Resolve vertically
Resolve horizontally
Take moments about a point which will eliminate most variables (normally where there is reaction and friction)

And then solve simultaneously to get each part you want

I don't remember many questions in our examples that were that straight forward, but then again our teacher writes his own problems for our examples which are always quite a bit more complicated than needed.

That's the way to solve all Mechanics lol
A good diagram gets you around most qs

When you were younger, as in Year 6-9, did your school sign you up to pages like SuperclubsPlus or GoldStarCafe? It had a similar layout to TSR, only that it was a lot more censored (obviously, as it was for children). I used to use it a lot :P

Also, I love how people spend half the page writing the question :mmm: I shorten like crazy
