Hi everyone! Lapsing Christian/Catholic here. I'm trying to discover my own faith (if any), and wanted to ask you all a question. Do you believe every part of the Bible? Or are there some parts which you excuse or ignore? This is something that has been playing on my mind

That's something that different people have different opinions on, I don't think there's one consensus. Some Christians believe that all of the Bible is the infallible word of God, so all literally true. I fall into a different camp - I'm an ancient historian by training and I read the Bible, especially the OT, in the light of that experience. That means I don't take every word as perfect, and I read much of it, especially the OT, as allegory rather than literal truth. So, for example, I believe that the story of the 7 day creation was an allegorical description of the Big Bang etc, given in a way that could be understood by the people at the time. There are lots who take this sort of view, but equally plenty who don't. The important thing is to keep thinking about it all

I think it is important to come from the angle that the bible is the word of God to us and therefore all of it is in there for a reason.

We might not fully get or understand the reason for some parts of it but I find that going to hear the bible being taught really helps and opens my eyes up to the meaning of various passages of scripture that are being preached, this is why its vital to go to a good bible believing/teaching church.

My thoughts on this are based on this verse in 2 Timothy 3 v 16

" and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Yes the bible is full of various types or styles of messages to us, some in poetry, some as stories (parables) some in prayers or laments, some are visions (Daniel and Revelation), most of it is historically true and happened and then the other parts are open to waiting on God for to fully understand.

Just my take on it
If God is for us, who can be against us?:smile::smile: (Romans 8)
Hi guys I'm from the ex-muslim thread and not religious, I've kinda been debating with myself where should I post videos of exmuslims that converted to another faith. I've deicided that since they have converted christianity it's right to now call them christians, so if you don't mind I will be posting their videos here.

Hi there

Thank you so much for this post, it is a wonderful testimony :smile::smile:

I've seen this guy before as he presents a programme called 'Muslim Journey to Hope' on one of the God channels, but you can also view them on their website.

What I love to hear, and this is happening more and more, Muslims are searching to experience God's love and to know who Jesus is. There are so many accounts of them meeting with Jesus in visions and dreams.

I find all of this amazing.

Thank you, I shall watch it in a mo.

I listened to this one the other day, I don't know if you have ever heard of this guy before but it is another miraculous story of meeting with Jesus. (All of it is very interesting but especially for me from 30.00 on).
