Shows more about your spineless manager than anything tbf. Whilst people mock Di Maria, least Van Gaal's had the balls to drop him and give somebody else a chance.

We doing that little game where we pretend Ozil is playing badly 12 months after his dip in form? He's had a good season and is playing as well as he ever has for Arsenal.

Not much comparison to Di Maria at all

No I'm not talking about now, Özil is a wonderful player who I've always lauded who's having a great run of games. I mean the back end of last year when he was clearly burnt out/struggling for form yet was picked game after game. Di Maria is going through a rough patch of form, it's better he's out of the spotlight (look at the headlines which Louis has deflected away from criticising Angel in comparison to Mesut, it's not a campaign but a tactic).

That's fair enough. Late last season he was actually playing ****e and Rosicky or whoever should have come in.

In fairness Di Maria hasnt had the same media frenzy around him as Ozil did last year when the tabloid press were obsessed with him for about 2 months.

I think Di Maria will come good anyway tbh
We should have signed Cesc Fabregas. 16 assists this season and could still break the record of 20 set by the legendary Thierry Henry. Maybe if we signed him we would still be in the title race instead of failing for another season.
The initial point I made admittedly was too generic as it could apply in several different ways. You can look at it like :

+ Who has the strongest midfield on paper (player for player)
+ Who has the strongest midfield both quality AND depth wise
+ Which midfield has been performing the best this past month
+ Which midfield has been performing the best this season

You don't discredit players like Walcott/Welbeck and Alexis because they're part of the midfield. We don't play with two strikers up front even when the two players you mentioned are on the pitch.

Well signing Cesc wouldn't have given us the title anyway. Shocking defensive errors cost us points along with Welbeck being our only striker for the first 3 months of the season..

What a load of *******s. As if what this team lacks is another creative midfielder. Didnt win a thing when Cesc(and Rvp Nasri etc) was here so lets move on and focus on winning things with the players who play for Arsenal now.

Reminds me of when people said things like ''Had we kept RVP imagine where we might have finished'' in 2012/13 when we finished in exactly the same position before and after he left FFS. Arsenal have fundamental deficits in terms of winning the title and adding another gloss of paint with the likes of Cesc doesnt bring us any closer.

And the 16 assists thing is really a product of Chelsea relying on him for their creative play early in the season. The likes of Willian and Oscar dont come up with the goods and so it just happens that their attacks went though Cesc basically whereas at Arsenal with Ozil, Alexis, Cazorla etc we're not exactly short of someone who can play a final ball. He wouldnt get 16 assists here in other words.

Also the fact he's a complete cretin makes me pretty happy he ended up with the chavs

If you want to use the 2nd half of last season as a guide for who should be in the team, then there is no way you can justify Cazorla being put in over Ozil. Santi was absolutely shocking for an extended period of games, and bar his wonder goal against Hull, he was awful. I remember people saying we should sell him the first offer we get.

We don't need another creative midfielder that's why we should have sold Santi and brought in Cesc. We should never have allowed him to go to Chelsea where he's helping them win the title. If you think without Cesc Chelsea wouldn't have dropped points then you should go and live on the moon! Mourinho is laughing at Wenger he is right the guy is a specialist in failure no wonder he hasnt won the league in 11 years! Also you shouldn't insult Cesc he's an Arsenal legend he carried us on his back and had the complete right to go back to Barca so don't get butthurt.

But the initial point was that Arsenal have the strongest midfield. Just because your system has 4 and ours use 5 it doesn't discredit ours.

Point is it's impossible to player-by-player compare 4 to 5

Alexis can just about be included but Walcott and Welbeck are forwards really. Not necessarily strikers but wingers.
Yeah Arsenal would almost certainly be top if they'd signed Fabregas

But they're still part of the midfield? I'll give you Walcott but the amount of times Welbeck/Alexis drop deep into the midfield means they're anything but traditional forwards

Please try to justify this statement without referring to his 16 assists at Chelsea.

not really.

Injuries to our strikers and our defense killed this season for us.

Adding cesc in would have helped - sure.. and probably would have put us at a more comfortable 2nd, but I dont think it would have been enough to beat chelsea.

Afterall, without cesc, they would have brought someone else to fill that role, and whilst they may not have been quite as good, I think that chelseas drop with a non-cesc midfielder, would not have been as big as our gain with our midfield + cesc, if you see what I mean.

We would have still had no striker to finish chances, and about 3 fit defenders for the first half of the season.
Arsenal don't need Fabregas, they need some new physios

Chelsea would have won the league anyway, last year they missed out by a few points and this year City collapsed.

And lol at not insulting Cesc. Next week I'm going to spend 90m screaming abuse at him at each and every opportunity and trust the vast majority of others will too. Aim is to cause Cesc some kind of visible mental episode on the pitch. Absolute dream would be for him to break his leg and to get pelted with coins as he's hauled off the pitch
When's the last time Cesc was at the Emirates?

Probably last season as a spectator, used to post pictures of himself at the ground fairly regularly.

As a player, like April 2011.
