Depending exactly which trains/stations you use to get to KX it can also be a bit of a pain changing if you have a suitcase. Then you arrive at the one side of town.

That is true. That is what i noticed as well. There are some coaches that are kind a going express and it shows 2 hrs and 20 mins journey from LHR. Just few bucks more. Its easier to take bus because of luggage.

Any suggestions on staying locally? Hotels seems to be around $200 to $350 per night. Thanks guys and appreciate your feedback.

When are you planning on going? First thing to try is your college (you should anyway let them know you are coming for a visit, you may get shown around/introduced to MCR members etc ) and see if they have a room available for you or can otherwise suggest something. If that is not successful try the general colleges guest accommodation - they sometimes have rooms going to rent that are cheaper than hotels - but usually only outside of term time. There is a page to look for college rooms across all colleges - sorry I can't remember the sitename but you should find it on google. Yeah hotels are pricey. Try some B&Bs too. Just be careful as some of them are pretty far from the centre, but you'd never guess that from their location descriptions on their websites

Thanks. Yeah, i am thinking about letting the college know as well to see what advice do they have and if it would be possible to meet some of them over there to get to know more. I am planning to visit during Easter break, but then I worry that the department might be close or I might not be able to meet anyone in the department. I am interested in meeting some of the international students, International support services unit or anything related to it if exist.
I don't trust the B&B for the same reason you mentioned and I am trying to be in the center as much as I can. I did find the website that offers different colleges rooms, available only during Easter break.

If you're visiting out of term time you'll almost certainly get a college room somewhere. Try your own college first as they may well give you a member rate rather than a guest one, even though you haven't matriculated yet. Also drop a line to the MCR - shoukd be a contact on your college website - to see who is around. You should find your college devoid of undergrads but with a fair number of postgrads around. I think it's oniy over Christmas break that departments actually "close". There might be faculty away on holiday of course, but don't forget that most postgrads and especially PhDs work through the vacations, which are really only relevant to undergrad.

Hello everyone. Congrats for your offer!
Just wondering how long did it take you to get an offer? I applied 8 weeks ago but heard nothing.
I was informed that 90% of the decision will be made in Feb/March. Some people got rejected just less than a month after their application, so do I have a good chance? Very anxious!!

Do you mean some applicants who apply for MPhil REF get rejected for less than one month?I thought it would come together after the deadline.

I mean in general... Well, it might be for REF as well, my friend got an offer in just a month.

I emailed them several days ago and they replied the whole result would come next week. However, it seemed that they started to give results today. So nervous!

Sorry to hear that but its not end of the world. You should reapply next year and make your application more stronger. Its always a learning experience. You can get in. Good luck to you and wish you all the best.
Hi guys! Anyone from the last batch got an offer/rejection yet?

No one i believe. My friend said it changes to BOGs around 1-2 weeks before next board meeting. So, we might hear something in May, as the next BOGs meeting is around mid-May.

I've spoken to one of the admissions staff and she said we will get answers by end of April, but frankly your estimate seems more appropriate

It means that I am one place less likely to receive an offer

That you have an offer coming soon.
Hi all,

Not sure how active this thread is but thought it would be useful to share my experience as I have been given a conditional offer as of 06/05/15 (1st overall in my undergrad).

My background is in Hospitality and I spent a 14 months working at JLL in their hotels team in London (work placement - sandwich year).

I finalized my application early January 2015 (before funding deadline). I tried to sell myself as the 'hotel specialist', which I think did a lot to sway them as hotels are still a relatively niche asset class within the field of real estate (plus it helped to differentiate me from more generic real estate applicants).

I have no finance background (heck I don't even have A level maths), but I have had Accounting and Finance modules at university and I did Economics AS. My end game for now is to work in Private Equity (e.g. Blackstone/Starwood Capital) or for a REIT that specialises in hotel property such as Host Hotels.

I've been extremely active regarding societies at university, organizing careers fairs etc., particularly in my final year.

The general crux is Cambridge is not just looking for academic excellence: they are also looking for drive; passion; leadership qualities and networking ability. They want their students to be the leaders of the future within their chosen profession. If you can demonstrate these qualities then you stand a high chance of being accepted.

Student diversity is also important within the course (i.e. they don't want everyone from the same background, school, university etc. etc.), so if your profile is strong and you didn't get accepted, don't take it personally. It could be they just have too many candidates with a similar story. No other university is as picky as Cambridge and there is still a great deal of mystery regarding who/who doesn't get in. For better or worse, this is the Cambridge way... and it adds to the exclusivity/elitist feel associated with the Cambridge brand.

If anyone has any questions, please ask and I will do my best to help . I know how painful the waiting game can be!
