I am 5.8. I agree it is better to be tall. Being good looking is meaningless. If you are tall you can protect people better than a smaller man. Though if you are a giant then you just look weird.

Depends what you mean by protect. If you're talking self defence, martial arts does not rely on height, neither does knowing how to use a bladed weapon.
I'm 5 foot 9 and a girl....I'd prefer to be shorter but definitely good if you're a guy!

They don't have weight classes to protect the big guy do they. You can't carry blades, it is illegal. Apart from a 3 inch flip knife with no guard, which is more like to cut your hand than the other person.
Also I am not just talking about self defence. I mean things like being pushed about on a bus or train.
