Its good that we kill off 2nd half, its about getting the points and lets us practice seeing out games.

killing off the 2nd half by defending is great.. But killing off the 2nd half by scoring twice as many goals is better - and it does seem to be something that other top-teams do, and we have struggled to do over the past few seasons..

Its great for confidence as well.

Ofcourse you have the risk of a 3-3 as happened this season, but lets be hoenst, there is a no reason why a top team cant push on for more goals and not collapse in defense
all this arguing/wuming has helped us pick up the post count a bit on this thread..

Looks like we will hit the new one before I leave, so:

Dibs on making the new thread - would be good to do one before I head away

How was Koscielny at the age of 24?

How was Koscielny at the age of 24?

that was the age we signed him I think?

well he got sent off in his first game.. I dont really remember much of that season as it was when I first started watching arsenal - though he was a beast in our game vs barca..

I mean he was playing for FC Lorient before that - was was pretty unkown as far I as I have always been aware.

I dont remember him getting rated really highly until around the 2012-13 season

It was a comment referring to somebody writing off Mangala who is also 24, considering how atrocious Koscielny was at that age it's a bit unfair to write Mangala off.

fair enough
Just because Varane is a freakishly good talent who seems to have developed early, doesn't mean everyone needs to peak before their 25th birthday. Mangala had a good reputation before joining City, and has shown flashes of brilliance alongside some mediocre moments. He'll come good. When I think of it, France has an incredibly strong set of centrebacks, and a good set of upcoming centrebacks (e.g. Zouma, Laporte etc).

Mangala is probably suffering from his price tag and people overhyping him when they've probably never seen him play. He also hasn't been helped with playing in a team that is so extreme, it seems and playing alongside a shambolic Kompany.

Coquelin in all honesty should model his game from Makalele or the likes of Matic and Javi Martinez, don't think he has the ball playing ability to be a deep lying playmaker like your previous DMs like Arteta etc, but he can get across the pitch well and doesn't lose the ball too often, although 84% passing accuracy from a DM is a little worrying especially when you consider that Coquelin isn't a direct deep lying playmaker neither does he like to push forward on bursting runs like other DMs do. Arteta has 93% in the premier league, while Matic has 86% passing accuracy.

But at 23 years old he's got time. Nemanja Matic e.g. was nowhere near this level in 2012 for Benfica, but when he got a good run of games he did very well.

You'll still need a DM as it's going to be worrying using Flamini and Arteta(similar to Chelsea's problem with Mikel and Ramires who are decent but just not good enough to play extended r of games), but I'm warming to coquelin too.

He's ball playing is superior to Arteta. Arteta is just a hopeless stat paddler.
The cycle goes
1) Get ball from Kos
2) Pretends he's going to pass it forward and eventually do a semi-cryuiff turn
4) Pass it to BFG
5) Gets it back from BFG
6) Repeat step 2 and pass it to koscielny
7) Repeat cycle.

Whereas with Le Coq, there's more fluidity and progression to our all round game rather than hopeless impasse triangles that gives defence time to set a structure and get a breather. You'd even find Le Coq attempting some Gerroles diagonal passes and a relatively fair amount are successful, I'll probably prefer he didn't attempt as much but **** it. And if teams disrespect him and give him lots of space, he isn't scared and rarely hesitates about driving forward into the space and I can't remember us getting caught out for this which shows that he's efficient and cerebral in that aspect. No one should be worried at all about his ball playing ability.

So the 'specialist in failure' Wenger has said we will not sign any central defenders in the summer. This is what he said.

Four is enough," Wenger said."(Mathieu) Debuchy can play there, (Nacho) Monreal can play there, so you can say we are not out to buy a central defender."And Gabriel will be a great central defender, believe me."
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssss

**** Wenger had me scared of a title charge next season.

I really hope Gabriel starts for the rest of the season to be honest, really want to see that beast's potential.

If Wenger has already ruled out a defender, and says that we are likely not to sign a keeper.. what on earth are we planning to do in the market in this summer

We already have Coquelin, don't need multiple players on the pitch with batmasks, it would look like Comicon.

What is it with Chelsea appropriating Arsenal songs? Quite a few examples now
