AQA sociology exam today?!?!

Scroll to see replies

I went into the exam being really well revised....

And then my mind went completely blank on the childhood question..so pretty sure I would not have got any more than 10 marks on that, which is so annoying because I've been getting A's all year!

SO frustrated and annoyed with myself!!

Hope everyone's exams went okay

"To remove any confusion, here is the definition of a household from the mark scheme of June 09.

a household consists of a person living alone or a group of people who live communally, eg
share accommodation and eat together."

I defined it as a family structure for example lone parenthouseholds, Stepfamillies etc. Will i loose marks

That's the same as me :frown: What was your answer for the question on cohabitation?

you had to say something like
fear of divorce
high of expections so too much pressure
cost of wediings
its less frowned upon

That's exactly the same for me, I enjoyed the questions but whether or not I had correct answers or used enough AO2's I have no idea, I think I'm more worried about the results than I was the exam

So I'm freaking out. For the government policies question, I did 4 different policies, 2 different sociological views for each for example _ civil partnership act, the impact on family diversity, the feminist view, the new right view and then my own view.
Have I done this completely wrong? :frown:

I liked the questions in the paper
I had something to say for all of them so I just hope I had enough a02 in the essays and that my writing actually makes sense to the examiners
Prediction for sociology unit2?
Reply 31
It was easier to predict unit 1, i heard its quite difficult to predict unit 2 soo idk. i've seen what has come up but they could repeat it like in research methods they repeated official statistics and unstructured interviews but then i think people find education harder 😭 hopefully i can do better in unit 2 so it can bring up my grade😩

What did you guys write for the question about marxists

I basically wrote the 3 things in the marxist perspective of family so:
Unit of consumption, Inheritance of property and ideological functions

What did you guys write for the question about marxists

The answer should have been:
1) Consuming Capatalist goods
2) providing emotional support for workers
3) producing children to be workers
i nearly wrote inheritance of property for the marxist question but then i decided not to as i didn't think that was really linked to capitalism as such, more to the husband?

i wrote:

1) the reproduction and maintenance of the labour force needed for capitalism
2) socialising its members into the capitalism values, by teaching them that there will always be someone above them giving them orders, through parental (particularly patriarchal) control
3) unit of consumption; the family is encouraged to "keep up with the joneses" and children are encouraged to use "pester power" and so the family makes a profit for capitalism

and for household definition i wrote:

a group of people who live under one dwelling who share things such as food, bills and rent. they can be related or unrelated.

for cohabitation:

secularisation
declining stigma and changing attitudes

for the policies essay i used social policies and theories/perspectives on social policies e.g. feminists, functionalists, new right.

for the childhood essay i talked about postman and palmer and the disappearance of childhood, the general changes that have occurred since the middle ages and used aries and shorter, and how childhood is actually being extended due to parental control e.g. control over resources, children's bodies etc. as that was also linked to the item.

For the policy question i spoke about the new right. new laboir and functionalist views and i did include some policies but i dont think i linked to how it would impact family life...how many marks could i loose?

I'm not sure because a lot of people at my school only did policies and didn't include perspectives at all which I think is wrong

I don't think you would lose too many because it's kind of hard to not say how it impacts family life? Like if you said about how functionalists liked the nhs cause it helped the family to fulfil it's role then that's answering it, or how the new right don't like policies because they make families reliant on the state then that's answering it.
I'm sure you will have stated it without realising maybe, you'd probably still get a high mark, if you used correct policies and stated the right perspectives maybe 18/19?
