i got b =7

SAME!! I got so confused and went back to it at the end, Pythagoras!

Yeah, I got this

Then the triangle was 180/5, so the area was 180/5 - 108/5 = 72/5

trapezium mate

trapezium = 54

54 - 108/5 = 162/5 or 32.4
I found the cylinder question quite challenging but the rest of the exam wasn't bad.

i got the 108/5 one too!! What did everyone get for the chord one where you had to find the shortest distance?

I got 7, so did 5 people I spoke to after the exam, so I'd say 7 is a safe bet
Fairly confident of every question apart from the first 5 marks on the cylinder (i know what i did wrong now).
Will hopefully only lose a couple of marks on all the other questions, so i should get an A.
Waiting for an unofficial mark scheme

k < 4, k > -4/9

I got that but I just realised that I put 4/9 instead of -4/9. What a stupid mark to lose there. I got all the workings correct as well but I just forgot to add the minus.

What did everyone get for the third question when you solve two equations sim. to find the coordinate of k or something
Reply 47
Chord was 7 was Pythagoras, root of (2root5)^2 -1^2 which is root 49 so shortest distance is 7
5 root 2 squared - 1 squared = root 49
which was then 7

Completely forgot about that, guess I rushed it

The positive value for K was 4 I think
So on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the hardest; how hard did people find the test?
i did 2(square root of 5) - QP^2 which = to 20-4=16
square root of 16=4

What did everyone get for the integration question?!?
Reply 55
For the integration and finding the area of shaded part i forgot to simplify from 324/10 to 162/5- will I lose a mark cos I can't remember whether they specifically asked for it in the simplest form
Solid 9.

The paper was great apart from the cyl question

Think the grade boundries will be rather low this year 61 for an A i'd say
1) -5/3
coordinate A (9, -4)

2) 7+ √15

3) y=-10x -4
108/5
162/5

6) show something
r= 4
second derivative = -12pi so it's a max value

8) -4/9 < k < 4

Dunno what question number
Chord to centre = 7
