if i got the radius as 5 but have wrong/no working would i get any marks
yeah probably 61-63 for an A

I didn't realise the one with the stationary points only asked for the x coord. I went on to find the y one too which was some fun arithmetic with fractions, haven't done that since year 7, clearly too reliant on fractions. Spent most of the exam worrying that my answer of 89/27 was wrong because it's too random. Oh well, would have been sat there for an hour doing nothing if I hadn't have bothered
I don't think it was much different from last years paper so I'd expect the boundaries to be similar.
can anyone remember the find a question

just wanted to check something

Good luck!

I thought it was an OK paper, maybe slightly harder than last year. Made a few really really stupid mistakes though...kicking myself!

From the OP:
June 2013: A - 60, B - 54, C - 48, D - 43, E - 38.
June 2014: A - 65, B - 59, C - 53, D - 47, E - 41.

So maybe A = 63 this year?

hope these are right ^^ guesing ive lost about 6 marks total from what other people have got, so need a secure boundary like that for an A

C2 next week, hope its as nice as c1 :P

like can anyone remember f(x)

I got 25 for last one so annoyed. And had the right answer for k then crossed it out :frown:

I got 25 as well :frown:
How many marks was the first question?

W should get 3 of the 4 marks though

Can't remember the question order so sorry if it's wrong (it's definitely wrong). From what I can remember:
1) 4 + 4root3
2) can't really describe the graph, if you know what y=1/x looks like then reflect in either axis.
Translation of 2 in x was -1/(x-2)
The translation they wanted you to state was a stretch of 1/3 in either axis.
3) 5^8
5^(-1/4)
5^(9/2)
4) was this the one with k?
Factorise the quadratic, draw graph. For y>0, x<-1 or x>3/2
K < -25/8
5) differentiation? Can't remember the answer to this, was reasonably straight forward though if you expanded brackets.
6) simultaneous equation - x=1, y=2 or x=14/3, y=-13/3? Not sure about signs
7) differentiate x^(-1/3)? Should get out -1/48 when you put x in.
8) coordinate geometry? Line was something like 6x-8y-29=0
9) a=13
Second derivative was positive therefore min points
X=1/3
10) centre (5,-2) radius 5
Prove tangent
Area of triangle = 40
I've just realised how much I really cannot remember the order. These are my answers which seem to be generally accepted within my school and by various people on here. They may not be right.

what was the question involving k?

find a given that x=4 was a stationary point or something

like can anyone remember f(x)

point b had x=4, and f(x) uhm i cant remember dy by dx was like 18x something if that rings any bells sorry aha

2x^3-2ax+???
Can someone explain the last question I got 50 and I really don't get how it's 40? Where does the circle and tangent meet the y axis ???

I think the gradient function was 6x2 + 2ax + 8
Original post by Maprunner
I think the gradient function was 6x2 + 6x + 8

that was dy by dx i think? and it had -2a and a was 13 or something idk
it was a cubic i thought?

Sub in x=0 in to both equations.

You get (0, -2) & (0, 8)

(b*h)/2 -> (10*8)/2 = 40

Got this wrong as well.

someone posted a graph with the diagram and how they got the answer a couple of pages back x

yeah I said it was the gradient function i.e dy/dx
if an A was say 62, what mark will be required for 100 UMS? 71 or 72?
