Would I have lost a mark for leaving my answer for the chord as 5root2 - 1 instead of 7?

also for the cubic graph, I did the repeated root at 3, I'm assuming I would only lose one mark?

also for the values for k in the circle question, if I rearranged the question into a quadratic incorrectly but continued on to get values for the incorrect equation, how many marks would I lose

5root2 doesn't equal 7 :s-smilie:

And I think you'll get one mark at least for getting the general shape of the curve right

Yeah, I got this

Then the triangle was 180/5, so the area was 180/5 - 108/5 = 72/5

I got 54 for the area of the trapezium so 270/5-108/5=162/5

was it a trapezium or triangle ???

if you think last year's exam was harder than this year's, wouldn't the grade boundaries go higher this year?

for the record, i found this exam much harder than the june 2014 mock i did, yet i think i lost fewer marks in it

Yeah but everyone i talked to found 2014 easier than this paper so i was going on the majority that i've heard about

I got 7 as well but I left it as root 49 stupidly. The question was only worth 2 marks do you think I will lose a mark?

I don't think so, root 49 is still correct
It tends to vary each year so have a quick check here:

Scroll down and take a look at some past papers to get an idea.

I also don't understand UMS... so quoting this for visibility

Uh, I'll have a go at explaining it for you.

So each mark is worth a certain number of UMS points - this changes every year.

80% UMS = A
70% UMS = B
60% UMS = C
50% UMS = D
40% UMS = E

The UMS grade boundaries never change, but the raw grade boundaries do (thats how many marks you need for each grade, as each year the number of UMS each mark is worth changes, depending on how easy/hard the paper is)

Hopefully this helped, a little?

5 root 2 - 1 I said, which does equal 7
alright thanks, and it was out of 2 right
Everyone try not to worry too much, the people who are on this forum tend to be higher scorers anyway, more studious so not necessarily reflecting the rest of the regular study world

Does it go up in 10s, or can you get like 98 UMS?
Because I think I got around 73/75 which just scrapes 100UMS, would that be 90UMS or like 98?

It was a trapezium

For drawing the graph x^2(x-3) I drew it passing through the origin then touching at three. How many marks will I have dropped out of the three?

Anyone???

Thanks for the consoling!

What did everyone get for the translation question?

You'd get 1/3 for that

It would be around 98/100 UMS

I got 162/5 for the shaded area. The area of the trapezium was 54 and the area from the integration was 108/5. 54-108/5=162/5

2nd that

Help, what was the original p(x) in 7)b)i) and by what was it divided to leave a remainder?
thanks.

x^2(x-3)+20 was p(x)
(x+2)(x^2-5x+10) or (x-2) I can't remember.
