What did people get for 4b? I think I had 21/2 and -9/2? As x-3=+ or - 15/2

I got that too.
Hmmm why did you put 15/2?
Reply 42
i got the 21/2 but literally just as i figured that out it was time up so couldnt do the negative
Reply 43
for tanaBc I got lengthAC/LengthAB ??? anyone else get anythng like that
I got Length DC/DB, because DC is perpendicular to AB and therefore makes a right angle, but there was no guarantee that AC was perpendicular to AB.
Reply 45
yeah i literally just took a guess :/

yes that's correct. but i didn't know how to simplify my final answer :frown:.
Reply 49
wasnt it something like, take the roots down to as low as they can go and then they cancel or something?

Thanks for the reassurance  ! And I think I simplified it to 1 over the square root of two

x=40 for the stationary points riddle?, i mean 'question'
Yup I got x=40 too. I thought the question was alright! Makes a nice change from the usual C1 questions
Reply 53
I got tan=1/2
Reply 54
I had x=40 and put it back into the L equation to get L=80 is that correct? Or was I just meant to leave it after solving X

I had root 20 over root 90 but I simplified it wrong! But think that is ac/ab
Reply 56
i think it is yeah, i just forgot :/// i know you had to do d^2L/dx^2 to show X>0 tf minimum

I got tan=1/2

Same here.
Reply 58
and then on that weird binomial, i had n=5 and a=-3/2 ?
Reply 59
what were the ranges for q5? for the one where you needed to find the range of no real root values?
