Liberalism is toast. Cameron will repeal all the liberal legislation and we will return to a conservative country with low market regulation and self-reliance.
If the annoying sharia-advocating, liberal-militant, race-card pulling and beggar people are gone then I do not mind at all. It's progress.

When I see people who are on the streets of London with their 'KILL ALL BRITISH SOLDIERS' posters I find it hard to understand why police brutality is banned.

Hopefully Choudry will finally be deported to the Islamic State.

Whatever happened to freedom of speech.

You know, that thing the western world was crying over just a few months back, or is that just for Islam?

Freedom of speech does not extend to the incitement of hatred and breaching other people's rights.

I don't want it to be legal for people to share their views in a public forum of any kind if those views are hateful, irrational, or potentially harmful to society if there's a danger others might be convinced by them. It is very unlikely that these new laws would be used to put down protests against government policy - such a move would destroy public confidence in government and prevent the Conservatives from being voted in again for a long time.

All the new measures being proposed, including the Snooper's Charter, are designed to be used to protect citizens from both radicalisation and terrorist activities. People who have the ideology of 'absolute right to say anything at all, anywhere, anytime and also communicate whatever I want, to whoever I want, without surveillance' are effectively campaigning to create an extremist's dream world.

The millions of people, who send tens or hundreds of messages/tweets/updates every day, create such a vast pool of constant data that the chances of a human 'snooping' on your data is tiny unless filters detect that you are very interested in buses to Syria or bomb-making. The government doesn't have time to care about your illegal media downloads or other 'questionable' online shenanigans - they care about prevent the spread of terrorist activity.

'The poorest will be the first to go down'? No. The terrorists will, and good riddance.

This is much bigger than a group of bearded guys living in a desert.

"The measures would give the police powers to apply to the high court for an order to limit the “harmful activities” of an extremist individual. The definition of harmful is to include a risk of public disorder, a risk of harassment, alarm or distress or creating a “threat to the functioning of democracy”.
The aim is to catch not just those who spread or incite hatred on the grounds of gender, race or religion but also those who undertake harmful activities for the “purpose of overthrowing democracy"

Now the "overthrowing democracy" is what scares the crap out of me. It should also scare the crap out of you. The implications of that phrase alone are incredibly vast.

Fair enough. You seem to think that Mr Cameron hates the people of Britain. He is only trying to protect us against clear and present danger.

You must have read a different article from the one I did.

In the one I read, David Cameron actually said "[f]or too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone".

Some of the articles and quotes that have been coming through news outlets over the last week have read more like pieces from the Daily Mash.

This is bad because?

Not that I mind if "overthrowing democracy" happened anyway, I'd be the first reactionary out there with a rifle to protect it.

I not worried about it. I like democracy, I don't want to see it overthrown.

What exactly does overthrowing democracy mean?

Perhaps it could mean protesting against the views of the majority of the country. You are protesting and potentially overthrowing democracy if you end up reforming policies and laws. Not long ago, that could have included Gay marriage, which the majority of the country was against.

Perhaps?

You are just guessing at what it could mean. Wait until the new laws are drafted before jumping to conclusions.

Regardless of what it means today, it is clearly shifting in that direction. The Conservatives have realised that these next 5 years are going to be incredibly difficult for them to keep any favourability amongst the electorate. Thus they must find ways to ensure, or at least increase the likelihood, of winning the next election.
Taken in context, the quote is fine. David Cameron wants to make life difficult for people with Islamist tendencies. Good on him.

It may have slipped your attention, but the West, and that includes the UK, is currently at war with militant Islam. People who support the totalitarian enemy do not deserve all the freedoms, such as freedom of speech, that their heroes in the Islamic state are fighting against.

It obviously means overthrowing the process of democracy.

Don't be ridiculous and jump to unrealistic extremes...

Why is it so difficult to see the bigger picture?

Even if this endless "war" on militant Islam ends, by that time, we will be chained up to the extent that we will have forgotten what it is to be free.
