I have B coursework, is an A/A* still possible?
I reckon learning 2 poems to contrast is a good idea = power seems to come up a lot so you have the river god, horse whisperer and Omidias (cant spell it yet)

OHHH YAY!!

Now time for interrogation -

do you have any idea what it might be on - has your teacher given any hints?
How are you revising this?

And are you as screwed as me?
Anyone know how to structure an answer for Mr Birlig? What quotes? AIC

How dogmatic he is about ww1/2 and the titanic being 'unsinkable absolutely unsinkable' makes audience immediately dislike him
only cares about social class and climbing the social ladder by boasting to Gerald and the inspector about being lord mayor and hoping to get a knighthood 'just a knighthood of course'
Highlights Priestleys views on how bad capitalism is
No sense of social responsibility for the death of Eva which makes the audience dislike him even more and prefer the inspector and shelias socialist views which was Priestleys aim of the well made play
hasnt changed attitudes by end
attitues to to women and treating them as 2nd class citizens

hope this his helps, if you write about stuff like that then I think you will be okay this is was I'm going to write about for mine if Mr Birling comes up

Yep, those exactly. Probably not the best combination, but I didn't choose them!

Horrible isn't it?

Do you have any idea about potential questions, or any advice?
what going to come up on of mice and men
Scared ****less for moday so if anyone has any thoughts or opinions on the questions below regarding OMAM it woud be much appreciated

1. The end of the novel is obviously quite tragic, but the very last line is Carlson saying "Now what the hell ya suppose is eatin' them two guys?". I feel this is a very abrubt ending and ruins the emotional atmosphere. Any ideas as to why Steinbeck has done this?

2. We find out that the reason Crooks has a crippled back is due to a horse kicking him. George also lies and says that a horse kicked Lennie in the head. Despite the fact one of these is a lie, they are both incredibly similar reasons and I was wondering if they had any significance to each other? I don't understand why Steinbeck would make two very similar excuses, regardless of the fact that one of them is not meant to be true, if they were not somehow linked.

3. Slim is the only character in the whole book whose name we learn before actually meeting him. All other characters are described before we know what to call them. I thought this was because Steinbeck wanted us to judge them on their descriptions before we knew their names, so I am unsure why this would be different for Slim?

Just some things I am puzzled about, thank you if you do have any answers

Well, for the unit 1 exam I'd go for (WIB) a choice of a chapter question and a themes question. Chapter 9 might come up (it hasn't as far as I can tell) or possibly 4. OMAM questions are limited because there is only so much context the examiners can link to- and parts a and b are always linked. Crooks and racial prejudice possibly, as there is a lot to get out of the beginning of chapter 4.

Advice? I keep getting reminded of the need for language analysis and perceptive comments- so something that goes beyond the obvious. Write enough and for all the questions and apparently it should be fine, so I'm told.

All of this doesn't make me any more confident.

No that's fab - thank you! Hmm, in the same boat there - "you'll be fine - you have a natural aptitude for English literature" - eurgh not went there are two books you have to know off the back of your hand and be prepared for ANY question, about ANY character or ANY theme.

We did Curley's wife for our coursework, so finger's crossed it will be her, but no - you're right, Crooks and Curley haven't come up recently....some people have said Carlson could be a character up for analysis, but apart from his shooting the dog and grabbing his rifle, I swear there's nothing else he does and not much else you could really deduce from his involvement in the book.

For the woman in black, i'm very unsure to be honest, I missed a lot of school when we went through it, and i read it a year ago, but so far i've just been on websites looking at analysis - I'm not sure what the format of WIB questions are? Is it character, theme or chapter - or any of the 3? I know there are two questions and you get to choose(?)
