feminists want equal rights. not superiority - equality. the same rights. and if men get upset because they're not the only ones being catered to anymore, well that's their problem.

Major misunderstandings of rights and privileges about in this thread. Oh dear.

Look, as a white, straight male, I am extremely, extremely fortunate. I am very privileged, as my category does get the majority of perks and benefits.

White - less association with crime, general assumption I am 'native'
Straight - society's advertising, lexicon and behaviour revolves around the tastes and preferences that I have.
Male - again, society is geared to accomodate me most of all.

These combined mean that I have an incredibly easy time of it in this country, and in most countries worldwide.

Feminists are not demanding 'goodies' from the state, but nothing more than greater awareness and thoughtfulness from everyone else. Less dictating of how a woman should dress, behave, or do with their lives (and it's undeniable that society does do this).

Feminism's fantastic & vitally important. "I believe in equality but..." is a clever way for someone to change the subject and not have to face up to the injustice the world still presents women with today. There are awful things still happening to women all over the world, (in some countries it's illegal to divorce your husband, but it's legal for a husband to beat his wife as long as he has "good intentions"- whatever that means...., a girl's mother will be beaten as punishment if a girl is raped on the way to school- and that's if she's even allowed to go to school...). It sounds like a hellish, impossible existence, but it is reality for too many people.

Even this country, something like two women per week die at the hands of their partners or ex partners. I read an article in the Guardian recently about how common rape is in prison (it was about 11% of people questioned disclosed some form of sexual assault). The readers in the comments were- rightly- shocked at the proportion, but that's about half of the proportion of women (in the USA) at least, who have been raped at some point in their lives. It's about 1/4 who've experienced sexual assault of some kind. It's REALLY f*ing scary that this stuff goes on, and people still don't see the need to make change in society- like look into the impact that porn has on perceptions of women, sex and consent, or the impact sexualised advertising has on the way women are viewed. I mean, if you just ask these questions, some men will jump and shout "crazy feminist!"- but data suggests that there is a serious problem that needs addressing on a large society-wide scale.

I don't know, these are just my thoughts on it. I know someone will probably jump and shout "crazy feminist!", but feminists have a legacy of bringing about social justice and equality. I wouldn't have the ability to even write this post if women a couple of hundred years ago hadn't campaigned for girls to have a right to a primary-school education. I'm proud that those women have given me a voice to share, and I can use that voice to ally myself with a good cause.

Divorce courts favour women overwhemingly.

Women can abort a child without consequences while men just have to shut up and pay for it. Sometimes even if the child isn't theirs.

Sentencing laws favour women and give them smaller sentences on average.

Men can't be legally raped by a women in the UK. It only counts as sexual assault.

Various affirmative action programmes.

Feminist organisations getting tax-payer funding.

Shelters for domestic violence victims (which get taxpayer funding) mostly only cater to women and men can't use them.

Loads and loads of single mothers living lifes almost entirely funded by the taxpayer.

There's probably more too.

I would like to see women treated better in some other countries but I don't agree with feminism as I can't accept it's fundamental logic (i.e. that men and women are essentially the same and equally capable in most things).
