Studies most likely to come up

- Piliavin

- Milgram

- Griffiths

Possible changes:

- Milgram = change sample to add females, make it a questionnaire instead of electric shock test to improve ethics

- Piliavin = change the procedure of 11am-3pm to longer hours, makes more valid as more valid sample can be ontained

- Griffiths = make longitudinal, can study gamblers better

okay so section A we have a question from each study..could be anything..section B we have a study to pik from two which we have to do in detail..section C we get an approach or perspective which we have to giv the assumption..strengths and weakness relating to the approach and two studies similarities and difference within the approach..well thats what I understood anyway :smile:

Literally screwed for this exam
There seems to be a lot of interest in Section B and C atm. But it is extremely important to remember that most of the exam is Section A. Don't skip over it or skip over details in the exam for this section.

When I open the exam, I'm going to have a quick look at four things: The possible studies for Section B, the theme for Section B, the possible approaches/perspectives for Section C and the final question for Section C. I'm doing this so I can mentally prepare myself whilst I'm doing the Section A questions. I will be able to think about the studies in relation to the theme and strengths and weaknesses of that approach/perspective/experimental method.

Lol I got an E last year in COre studies and I'm resitting this exam. :colondollar:

Don't feel like I've done enough for this exam, oh well.. A2 exams will hopefully raise my grades up. Also, worst thing is that I'm actually going to study Psychology at Uni lol peaks

They're not always 8 mark questions each, sometimes they merge them so it's ''suggest a change and evaluate'' - all as one 8 marker.

Evaluations just mean the advantages and disadvantages. For example, making Milgram a questionnaire could make it more ethical, but make it more prone to social desirability bias.

Be specific too, if you suggest changing it to a self-rating scale, you have more time to evaluate, as you can criticize that by saying ''rating scales may differ between individuals interpretations''

I fudged this exam up last year. Got an A in the mock but U in the exam (luckily my Psych Investigations brought it up to an E, though I suppose that's not really luck per-se).

Just think, whenever you answer an question, there's ALWAYS a right answer....I know, that's an obvious thing to think, but when you say it to yourself, the situation is less stressful.
does anyone know if you have to include numbers for the results of Samuel&Bryants study, and if so what the most important figures are??

no figures are never needed to reach full marks although they can help you with your point.

Hard to tell.

My Psychology teacher thinks it was a one-off, but they may return to the old format or keep new format.

Field Experiment. Stage an event like a bag being snatched in the street. Participants can ask whether they saw the bag being 'snatched' or 'taken' and a week later are asked to give a rating on how upset the victim was on a rating scale

Baren-Cohen
Introduce a choice of 5 emotions rather than two

Savage-Rumbaugh
Field experient improvement = set up experiment in a camp in the forest, and use the lexigram when the monkeys want food.

Milgram
Field experiment in a supermarket. A man in Uniform or Overalls (IV) asked a driver to move their car, and they keep asking for back/foward, DV - how patient the person is

Pilavin
Secondary Research = CCTV footage of people who fall in the street. measure who helps, how long it takes ect.

R&H
naturalistic observation in a place such a school. Interviews and questionnaires could be used to assess group identification

S&B
field experiment in primary schools. The conservation task could be part of a lesson and the teacher can write down the observation

field experiment in a school. Children shown a video as a class of a particiular behaviour, such as a game with either boys or girls playing, and observes in the playground to see imitated behavuour

Longitudinal experiment using a sample of trainee navigators such as pilots, sailors and lorry drivers as well as taxi drivers, with a total sample of 30. men and women. Left and right handed would be matched, and scans would be performed for each year for 6 years to detect changes

Natural experiment on people who have to have one side of the brain anesthetised for operations or are severly brain damaged in accidents could carry out the sperry tasks
