The Student Room Group

ISIS/Al-Qaeda/Al-Nusra terrorist groups used chemical weapons

I do not support Assad, but i see ISIS/Takfiri's/Al Nusra/ radical groups as a far bigger threat. I am for the voice of the syrian people, but for sure the vast majority of the 'fighters' are not even for the syrian people. After getting rid of these radical groups i support dialogue, and if it means Syria wants its own leader, i absolutely support them.

Secondly, it was infact not Assad who used chemical weapons, but the rebels to try and frame the government.
That's how dangerous it is, that's how evil ISIS and takfiri groups are, they are blood thirsty and by far the current biggest thread to world peace.

Evidence number one: In the early 2013 chemical attacks, both UN and Russian independent investiations concluded evidence highly suggested it was infact the rebels that carried out the chemical weapons attack.

From russian investigations: "the shell used in the incident “does not belong to the standard ammunition of the Syrian army and was crudely according to type and parameters of the rocket-propelled unguided missiles manufactured in the north of Syria by the so-called Bashair al-Nasr brigade”

An analysis on the later august 21 2013 chemical weapons attack

This was by far the worst and the most brutal attacks, and the UN this time round never at all said Assad did it, but seemd to conclude evidence highly suggested it was done by syrian government forces.

However, the following points including and independent MIT study will totally blow this claim out of the water

POINT ONE: 2-3 days, or a few days before the chemical weapons attack in ghouta , inwhich so many innocent people were butchered in one of the cruelest ways by chemical weapons, Assad had invited a delegation of UN inspectors to come into Syria to investigate the use of chemical weapons. Why would Assad, who had himself invited the UN to investigate chemical weapons use admist mounting international pressure, then actually carry out the attacks himself? He would have to be the most illogical, irrational, erratic incompetent individual ever. I'm not trying to say Assad is not bad enough to do it, i'm only saying he isn't mad enough.

POINT TWO: Scientists from MIT - one of the worlds best and most respectable universities critisized he UN report and showed why it was flawed, and why the government from their bases could not have carried it out These are not syrian government sponsored individuals, they are some of the most emminent and respected scientists at one of the worlds most respected universities and arguably the best university in America.

From the MIT website itself: http://web.mit.edu/s...on Syria CW.pdf

From MIT

The authors concluded that sarin gas “could not possibly have been fired at East Ghouta from the ‘heart’, or from the Eastern edge, of the Syrian government controlled area shown in the intelligence map published by the White House on August 30, 2013.”

Ofcourse, i'm glad you're on topic. Look, we had our disagreements in the past, i want a cordial relationship with you. Lets talk , lets work together?

The UN in 2013 agreed it ws rebel groups who used the chemical weapons.

However, in late august 2013 they said there was evidence assad used it in a seperate attack.

However, scientists from the MIT criticized the UN report and took it to shreds - on the grounds of science and logic.

I'll post you the sources, i'd love to get your view mate:

UN Admittance EARLY 2013 of rebel using chemical weapons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXmzBFyXvVI

Russia also agrees.

UN findings LATE 2013 on a different chemical attack: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-24130181

MIT report totally refuting the LATE 2013 UN findings - these are some of the most eminent scientists in the world: http://web.mit.edu/sts/Analysis%20of%20the%20UN%20Report%20on%20Syria%20CW.pdf

Russia also refutes the UN report: http://rt.com/news/rebels-chemical-weapons-syria-927/
They release HD videos of setting a man on fire in a cage.

They release videos that publicise the execution of homosexuals, by throwing them off a building.

But they are hiding the fact that they use chemical weapons?

Really?

The op is Iranian.

He's selective with his sources of information, and whilst refusing to acknowledge that Iran supports terrorists in the. Middle East, ignored the fact that only Assad and his regime can air launch chemical weapons.

They used chemical weapons to try and spark foreign intervention not just ISIS, but the al nusra terrorist groups. They would not admit this at it would drive whatever support they have from the people against them and expose their credibility locally.

I swear by God i am not Iranian.

Additionally, you are making an unevidenced statement. MIT-educated scientists disagree with you on that statement.

Again, care to provide evidence to back your statement up.

You've once again failed to link to the United Nations url for your other stuff.

Peace be with you,

Firstly, the UN are not wholly reliable - and while they did agree the 'rebels' or groups among them used chemical weapons in early 2013, they were incorrect to suggest evidence pointed to government forces using it on the 21st august, later 2013. I am not even asking you to believe RT or even PRESS TV, but what about MIT educated scientists, who examined the claims - using a scientific basis- of what the UN stated, and only using science, criticized it?

These are some of the most eminent scientists in one of the best, if not the best university in the world. Surely you need to give them credibility, and read their report?

I could not care less about Assad, nor do i support him. However, i fear the real enemies in the middle east, the takfiri's Al Nusra/Alqaeda , ISIS, radical groups gaining power and causing so much more bloodshed. We have seen how they are capable of using chemical weapons against syrians in such a devastating way to provoke western and arab intervention.

I condemn Assad for not bringing about political reform and for his crackdown on protestors, i condemn him and the FSA for human-rights abuses, but both groups are little children compared to the real killers on Syria.

I see you accused me of not bringing evidence, after i brought it, you did not reply to the evidence?

Absolutely, but let us examine the purpose of the report. It was to show the absolute errors made by the UN, the US'S rash decision that it was Assad, based on erroneous 'evidence' and not properly even knowing the physics of missiles. It's destroyed both the US's credibility, and also the credibility of the UN. It slammed the UN and US's judgements as rash, unscientific, and based on terrible evidence divorced from reason.

Therefore we go to the fact the rebels have already been caught with chemical weapons - used- in the past, and also one very pertinent point:

POINT ONE: 2-3 days, or a few days before the chemical weapons attack in ghouta , inwhich so many innocent people were butchered in one of the cruelest ways by chemical weapons, Assad had invited a delegation of UN inspectors to come into Syria to investigate the use of chemical weapons. Which ex-senator and presidential candidate Ron Paul echoes:

If we look at the ring around the conflict Zone, it also is far from the main government bases, it would have had to have been carried out closer to what i believe to be radical bases, perhaps by Al Nusra or another radical group.
