How many marks would I lose if I wrote 4cos^2x-4cosx =k instead of factorising it?

Got the same as you for all of them except the factorising question, which I'm pretty sure I got wrong.

4cos^2x - cosx -3 = 0

(4cosx +3 )(cosx - 1)

x = cos^-1 ( -3/4)
x = cos^-1(1)

you only put the solutions for x=cos^-1(-3/4)

what about the solutions of cos^-1(1)???

You should write questions for edexcel papers, completely undecipherable and unintelligible.

You're just mad because you've got parkinsons and can;'t ****

162??????????
I messed up real bad :frown: Trig threw me completley, couldn't even do the last two questions :frown:

i got (3x-12)(x+4) why is that wrong ? someone help meh pls

Is that your full factorisation?
If so, you probably lack (2X+1).
If not, then you will lose 1 mark for not fully factories as you have to put 3 out of the bracket :smile:
Has any one found the mark scheme the algebraic fraction finding B-A=45
what does everyone think about how many marks would be allocated for an A?
Original post by starkers1997
That was ******* difficult! I just couldn't get my head around the sequences question! I couldn't find r! First 4 questions were ok, then the rest were as hard as a brick wall! Expecting low grade boundaries....

Found it a piece of piss tbh
Q1) yes
Q2) yes
Q3) I screwed up polynomial division and subbed in x=-1/2 and ended up with B=1/2A, forgot to carry on from there lol
Q4) yes
Q5) Second part, got a quadratic, but messed that up, so maybe 4/9 for that Q
Q6) yes, unsure though because I got 162 as the shaded area. Integration gets you the area under the curve, and the shaded area was above the curve so I did []0,4 and added it to the integration of []9,4
Q7) yes but got N=11
Q8) yes
Q9) When I differentiated, I stupidly forgot to put the minus for 300pir-2 so will only get about 2 method marks for that
Guys if anyone finds an unofficial markscheme like the one for c1 could you link it
image.jpgThis is not a markscheme this is just what my answers were. Minimal hate if not correct please

Solutions for cos(1) are 0 and 360. The range said less than 360, so it's just 0.

Sigh I flopped the last question and sequences first two parts. Got 261£ :frown:
Does anyone have an unofficial mark scheme??
That paper was so hard! Didn't answer any of question 8
