Are the education policies based on marketization of education?

I'm rather confused

Yes, most of the policies that have been made are due to marketisation

Marketisation was brought in by Margaret Thatcher which was the Education reform act 1988 which includes;
The national curriculum, formula funding, GCSE'S (O levels at the time), Ofsted, Sats, league tables, parental choice and specialist schools - this was to increase competition and raise standards

When Tony Blair took over in 1997 with labour he kept marketisation but softened it, he introduced;
Compensatory education e.g. sure start, Education action zones, excellence in cities, aim higher, scholarships and academy status for failing schools

I hope this helps, my teacher thinks policies might be the 20 marker

A lot of people are saying External Factors and Policies could come up as the 12 or 20 marker tomorrow, but also labeling hasn't come up since 2010. So what are people's best thoughts on what is MOST likely to come up tomorrow?
(Another TSR user posted the following, so credit goes to anzyy )
June 2014 - Ethnicity (12) & Functionalism (20)
June 2013 - Class (12) & Gender (20)
Jan 2013 - Gender (12) & Marxism (20)
June 2012 - Policies (12) & Ethnicity (20)
Jan 2012 - Gender (12) & Class (20)
June 2011 - Functions of education system (12) & Internal factors leading to underachievement (20)
Jan 2011 - Gender (12) & Functionalism (20)
June 2010 - Class (12) & Policy (20)
Jan 2010 - Labelling (12) & Gender (20)

labelling came up in June 2011 aswell
I'm a bit confused...For the methods essay, if asked about one particular methods do we have to compare to another? And also if it says the limitations of questionnaires for example, should we also talk about the usefulness? Thanks so much to anyone who replies! :smile:

Could they ask a 20 marker question on Marketisation? Or would you just link that up to a 20 marker on policies?

We don't have to compare to the other, I was also questioning this the other day! I don't think we talk about the usefulness either unless it says the strengths and limitations ☺️
i hate whoever thought that three essay questions in a two hour exam was ever a good idea
We didnt get taught any of the research methods content until yesterday!!! So dont have the time to learn and revise all of it, does anyone have any suggestions of even the top 3 most likely topics that might come up? Thanks

Yeah they could :smile:
How would you answer the 20 marker "Assess sociological explanations of the organisation of teaching and learning."?
I'm completely stuck :frown:
i think that the marketisation of education will come up as a 20 marker

Could that come up as a 20 marker?! I thought it would be the whole of relationships and processes in schools if it came up, eeek!

I'm not sure :/ the processes within schools questions I've seen have all been 12 markers but my teacher put that question on a sheet of past and possible questions.

That's asking you to look at structural factors and internal factors.

Highly unlikely to come up.

Apart from marketisation, what else do you think is likely to come up a

And also do you need an Introduction in a 12 marker??
I didn't know we could get a question on processes within school? What does it mean what do you talk about? Not gender class or ethnicity?

Does labelling, pupil responses, subcultures, coursework, (basically any 'internal' factor) come under school processes? In my text book they are just called internal factors and are linked to gender, ethnicity or class, so are different for each one :s
any tips for getting application marks on the methods in context question?
