I probably won't (next year). I don't feel enough of a part of my school, and agree that it's a very peer pressure based situation.

I'm not going because I think I will be happier doing something else. I didn't go to the Y11 prom because I was on holiday but don't see the point of going to Y13 prom when I hate half of the year anyway

I'm currently in yr 11 and pretty much everyone including the teachers want me to go to prom but Im still not going because its a huge waste of time and money-

Spoiler

Never been to one of those things
Well I'm "not allowed" to prom but we'll see
I am going hahah dateless though  It's more of a friend goodybye thing instead of a romanced thing (for me)

I am not going to prom. Just don't want to feel I'm the only one who resists the peer pressure.

Save the money, do something fun instead.

I ddin't go. Kinda regret it but understand why I did. Not going to my college leavers this year due to everyone drinking alcohol.
No way! Not going. Waste of money.

I had two one for high school and one for sixth form an i never went to either of them.
Never went to any proms, secondary school or sixth form/college. I didn't see the point of spending money on a dress, hair, makeup travel and ticket just to dance to dead music and socialise with people I personally hoped to never see again! No regrets at all.

I'm not going either because:
Waste of money,
Don't have a group of friends to sit with at the table,
Don't like majority of people in my year so will have hardly any photos,
It will just be awkward

I'm going for the food.

Spoiler

to be honest, it's abit overrated anyway....
If any of you picture prom being something romantic, it's not LOL, this isn't the movies.... It's more like a rave tbh, If anything, the only time it will ever get romantic is at the end of the night, usually the last song is something romantic and thats it. When I was at my Y11 prom, the last song was "Iris" by the goo goo dolls.... but for the rest of the night, it was usually songs by kanye west, jay cole, Jay-z etc and some old songs such as "beautiful girl" by Sean kingston.... but this may vary for different schools

In my opinion, you should go anyway... It doesn't matter if you don't have a date, alot of people there don't have dates and alot of people don't really care. I mean, if you're planning to spend a night watching the movies, you can do that any time really but when it comes to high school proms, you're only ever gonna experience it once or maybe twice (year 13 prom)
Try and get out your comfort zone, and besides, you're most likely never going to see most of them again... so even if you don't like them, just go and experience what it's like at prom.... it's only one night

That's my advice anyway, but it's up to you. There are plenty of people who end up choosing not to go prom and there's nothing wrong with that. But in my opinion, I think everyone should try and experience as many things as they can and push their comfort zone

Went to my first formal last year. I expected many antics and shenanigans. Lots of people got drunk, and most of my friends snogged or smoked. Expected to get the chance to ask my fair maid for a dance and a kiss. Didn't happen:awesome:

But honestly, it's nothing big. No one even asked me or wanted a dance:frown:

:biggrin:True. Let me remind you that they were Irish.

I think a swiss masked ball with waltzing is more to my taste

I had prom last year, I didn't go. I found out afterwards that a few other people also didn't. You're going to get at least a few people each year who don't go, so don't worry about the context of your particular scenario, just do what ever you feel most comfortable doing.
