I don't think this question could come up - it would be very weird.

Not saying don't revise it! But I think there are more questions that seem perhaps more possible than this - simply because the way I interpreted the specification doesn't suggest that such a question would come up.

I'll revise it briefly... But if this question comes up, I would recommend that everyone does the other one

Thanks for your post by the way!

Lol, I'll still revise it. Does no harm to.

No matter what the other question is, I'll do Nazi consolidation if its on offer.

50/50! Your end grade depends solely on your UMS, and you can get an equal amount of those each year. A* is when A2 comes in, but that's more complicated.

Aww ok so if I got CDD last year there's no way I could get ABB? :'(

German revolution is technically part of the Second Reich but I suppose some books put it in the early years of Weimar/Impact of War. You won't fail!

Aww ok thank you! I really want to get at least a B overall cause last year I got a B in the source based question but flopped the Russia and got a U so I got a D overall and I retook it so hopefully I can at least level it out to a C. This year I got a D in the coursework :frown: it was so hard and it was on Spain 1492-1598 :frown:. Is there no way I could get a B?

Hmm. It's hard to say without knowing the exact UMS. Email/ask your teacher, perhaps?

I don't have a copy of the spec, but going by the content of the books, "Hitler's consolidation" chapter lasts up until July 1933. I have read this several times. The mock I did also cemented this idea.

Hahahaha. Chapman is that you? I had my suspicions but didn't wanna say anything in case I was wrong! Goodman

We planned it in class, I can try and recover what I wrote.

That was my own thinking, but then a bit of the specification says, "the impact of the conflict on the domestic situation should be studied, particularly the domestic changes of 1918", which worried me a bit!
How did Hitler consolidate his power? Need some help please?

I think it's that part that makes my teacher tip it to come up.

Hi, I did an essay on this before and quite recently. The question was 'Nazi consolidation of power in 1933 was primarily due to the use of terror and violence.' How far do you agree with judgement.
My points were
Terror and violence - SA and SS attacking communists so removing opposition - the Reichstag Fire gave Hitler the legal means to remove the communists - Catholics were intimidated and so they supported Hitler as they didn't want to suffer the same fate as the communists.
Weakness of the opposition - the communists plan was to do nothing as they thought Hitler would not last - fatal mistake as Hitler was able to remove them quickly - weren't much of a threat - the communists split and they couldn't work together (KPD and socialists) which highlighted their disunity and only strengthened Hitler's position more.
You could also add that Hindenburg and Von Papen made the fatal mistake of underestimating Hitler as it played into his hands and this ultimately led to the end of the Weimar Constitution
Propaganda and Popularity
Goebbels depicted Hitler as the 'Messiah' - the Germans turned to him to save them as the Weimar Constitution had failed to solve the many problems - Hitler manipulated the economic crisis/situation of 1929 (Wall street crash) in order to gain support with the Germans. He also exploited the Weimar's weaknesses and so he gained in popularity as the germans turned to him and he was seen as the saviour. He used all sorts of propaganda techniques like aeroplane, mass media stuff (will have to check all that). He had the support of the youth etc which reassured him that he could win the elections. Hindenburg was desperate to gain popularity as he was ruling by decree under article 48 - thought he could control Hitler but needed him so that he could gain popularity - Hitler was much more popular and so it eventually led to Hindenburg handing over Germany to Hitler
Potsdam Day was significant as it symbolised the old Germany being handed over to the new - Hindenburg represented the old Germany and old ruling elite where as Hitler represented the new Germany and the saviour
Enabling Act - gave Hitler four years dictatorship - he was able to enact laws without the involvement of the Reichstag giving him complete power - end to democracy. By physically barring the communists and other opposition it assured him that he would get a majority vote - he reassured the Catholics that the act wouldn't affect them or their influence in education - they were more inclined to vote, Goering reduced the number of votes from 432 - 378 which made it possible for Hitler to gain a majority.
Hope this helps! I think this is most of the points x
