Currently a first year student living in greenbank halls. I found it really hard to find any info last year about halls so thought I would help abit. The off campus (greenbank and Carnatic) are probably a bit more socialable and most of these places are catered. Catered is good as going for meals becomes quite socialable. Food is okay. Can kitchen sizes vary. Most people will get one of these two over on campus (vine court and crown) even if you put none of these in your options it's really **** how they do it. I would say greenbank food is slightly better due to the less volume of people to serve. Rankin is probably the best hall facilities wise as tey renovated it a couple of years ago to give a social area. Any questions feel free to contact me.

No sorry. I know vine court is very nice haha erm not much else. I can send pictures of greenbank or carnatic if you need.
Could anyone give me some advice on accommodation? I'm applying a bit late and just looking at my options here.. (coming from NI)

Preferably like to be on campus as I've heard buses etc are a pain. I like the look of Crown Place. Vine Court is a bit more expensive and it seems to be more pointed towards 2nd year students?

What halls are the best for a 'student experience'? I'd rather be in halls with other first years and be sociable. Any advice at all on the halls would be great.
Hey, I'm likely to be studying politics next year at the University of Liverpool as an undergraduate, and I'm split between Crown Place and Grand Central as I really want a lot of freedom, to enjoy the night life etc Any tips for me or idea to clear my mind?
I have a problem, I am 100% sure I want to live in crown because it's cheaper I can make my own food and it's close to the city however my parents (who are paying for the Acomadation) are 100% that Carnatic is the right place so I want be placed with non English speaking students, I'll be fed and they see it as more sociable, I disagree. Anyone know any ways of changing their minds? I can't afford to pay myself 😩

Crown place is more expensive than any offsite accommodation, you know. And offsite has food included so that makes it even cheaper.....

You might want to rethink that argument
Hi, Room available 10 minutes away from the Uni with 4 lovely people (two girls, two boys all 1st going into second years). Having to drop out and need to find a replacement. Double room on 30 Jubilee Drive. All bills and internet covered in rent. Please message me if interested.
Is there anybody who actually lived in Crown Place who can share their experience? I'm hoping to study Politics next year and applied for Crown Place but all of this talk about it being unsociable is making me worried :s-smilie:
Stay in a student village like Carnatic because even though they look a bit 'run down', those are the best places to meet other students and they will be the liveliest places however it also means it is so loud and you hardly get any sleep which would be difficult if you have loads of 9 am lectures. Side note: I'm sure if the noise become intolerable, you can kindly ask them to be more considerate but for the most part Carnatic will be the best place for social life. Plus there is also a student bus taking you directly to campus which takes around 20 mins.
Our accommodation Ablett House sound perfect for you. We have 100MB broadband, a large bike store, all with CCTV and secure locking. I've just finished first year at Uni of Liv and like you, when I was applying for accommodation I really liked the look of the on-campus halls but i wasn't placed in any of my top three and was put in to Carnatic. In all honesty I'm so glad they did!!! If I was you I'd go for the student villages; they're the liveliest, it's so easy to make friends, and not having to cook is amazing! I had friends in Crown Place and they said they hardly spoke to their flatmates and it just wasn't a good atmosphere. Although they look a little run down and a bus pass costs a bomb, go for the villages and you'll have an amazing year

As a Northern Irish person living in Carnatic please think about how you're moving your stuff around. The city centre is easier as it is close to the ferry terminal and the buses going to the airport and hauling my baggage from the 80a bus stop was a nightmare so do bring assistance. Also travel light you will be thankful for it later.

Hey guys, I'm a first year at the moment at University of Liverpool.

I'm actually in Melville Grove but I have friends in every single accomodation that is around. I think I really enjoyed living on campus due to the short walk to Uni in the morning and also not having to pay for taxi's to get into town. You will find that most freshers will want to go out a lot to start with but you will actually start getting bored with drinking towards the end of the year so try not to base your decisions on that. The private halls are actually usually full of international students and I know friends that have hated living there as they didn't really talk to the people in their flat. Vine Court can be sociable if you want to go catered and it's actually not as bad as you think it is going to be (so I have heard) but you can choose the self-catered option if you want. Crown Place is probably the best thing that you are going to get and the halls are absolutely amazing!

I still think it's worth you considering Carnatic as it is 100% the most sociable halls and if you are looking to have a good time and meet loads of people, then try Salisbury or Rankin which are the best two there. It's cheap, it's not that bad and they are all crazy drinkers over there! Just be prepared to get the bus early in the morning with a big hangover!

Hope this helped  x

How are you finding Melville Grove like socially wise and the atmosphere/state of the place.
For those looking for private accommodation I have 1 room available in a house with 3 girls in the 3rd year studying biological sciences/biomed. Located on Bagot Street so is close to ASDA/ALDI, rent is £360pm including all bills and free Internet. Lovely and friendly housemates who have made the house a great place to live with a homely atmosphere. Fully furnished room and TV included in the room

I stayed at Greenbank (Roscoe and Gladstone halls) this year but my best friends are at Crown Place. It takes longer to meet people outside of your flat at Crown however there are loads of flat parties/predrinks going on as long as you're open
Two basic questions from someone with no idea what to do.

1). Why do the Halls say £120pw rent? Surely we dont pay this now?
2). How do we choose who were living close to? Or is it completely random people all thrown in together?
