I couldn't do part b of the series question 😩
Give me a fking decade to do that... Still wouldn't be able to get close to 75 ://// WTF

You ended up forming the cubic from right at the start and from that knew it was 39 or 40 and the inequality said it had to be < 0 so it was 39
for the roots alpha^2 and beta^2, what did people get? did it have to be imaginary numbers?

Yes
For the imaginary number one. For a+b i got for but I then put ab=5 and I believe this is wrong

Yes. Got the quadratic as 4x^2 + 45 = 0, wasted most of my time checking that because I'd never seen them use imaginary roots.

Haha same, i simplified the surd for part c and thought it looked very wrong but glad other people have got the same answer

Think the surd came down to 3/2root(5)i?
That exam was a flipping screwjob 😅😅😅 ive dropped at least 10 marks

This is what I got too. The root of X is -a and -b so x^2 = a^2 and b^2, and they're looking for a^2 and b^2.

So you should've got something like a^2 = -45/4 = b^2

You didn't actually have to involve imaginary numbers
