Poll

What do you think you got?

Someone wanted this made so here you go!

I think this was question one
1) What is glucose used for? (in other words maybe)
Starch and cellulose

please let me know if this is the incorrect question/number or if there are other correct answers

Yeah that is correct
Question two answer anyone, it may have been 1b) what does the algae gain from the coral?

I'm not sure if this is correct but "the coral provides the algae with a protected environment and the compounds necessary for photosynthesis" - http://coralreef.noaa.gov/aboutcorals/coral101/symbioticalgae/

I know these:

The first six marker- you had to discuss photosynthesis
The second- gene specialisation and protein synthesis
The third- anti-depressants blocking receptor binding sites so serotonin can't be removed from the synapse. As serotonin makes us happy a build up of it will improve mood.

Horses- 32 chromosomes
Donkey- 31
Cell division- meiosis

Part of the brain- cerebral cortex

Plant organ- stem, leaf etc
Tissue- Xylem or Phoelem

Things to consider when prescribing anti-depressants- life style factors, medical conditions, whether the benefit out weigh the risks

Percentage increase- 13.64

Dialysis machine- 72l
Dialysis machines process- diffusion

Mule- it would have 63 chromosomes, and 31.5 gametes. This means it couldn't reproduce successfully to recreate a horse or a donkey zygote.

Thanks for this thread- it was me who asked for it  x

Pretty sure amino acids and chloroplasts would be fine too as they are also made with glucose (nitrogen from nitrates + glucose), not sure about chloroplasts actually, but it did mention it in the revision guide

I also got 72l but humans don't have 72l of blood so it can't be right so I changed my answer to 7.2 as a more realistic answer but we don't have that much blood either

I think it was 72, because that's what a lot of people got and you had to do 0.6l x 120mins. Although we don't have 72l of blood, the same blood could pass through the dialysis machine twice as it's a continuous cycle x
Is this AS Level Biology? I'm a GCSE Student but I'm curious

Damn I didnt do this! I wrote ethanol and carbon dioxide as I thought it could be to do with anaerobic respiration! :frown:

By more interesting I mean more challenging though  :P

Ah, maybe it's more challenging but I think it's challenging in the sense of having to decipher what on earth the exam board are trying to ask! OCR word things so badly sometimes!
But the Chemistry one the other day imo was great for wording, apart from two questions

1)Respiration
2)Making cell walls out of cellulose
3)Starch - storing useful substances that are insoluble
4)Making seeds - glucose is turned into LIPIDS for storing in seeds
5)Making proteins - combined with nitratea from soil into amino acids for growth and repair.

hope this helps!!
what do u think the grade boundaries will be, for this paper?
