MEI M1 - 9th June 2015

Hey!

Thought I would create this thread for anyone that's doing the MEI M1 exam this year.

I'm already starting my revision for this exam because I'm not the best at it, so I need to get some good practise in.

How's the revision / unit going for you guys?

List of revision for M1:

Anyone actually manage the show that h=1000-5t^2+(t^3)/6? I kept getting h=1000-5t^2+(t^3)/2.

You first get h=10t+t^2/2. Integrate this and you get, h=(10t^2/2)+(t^3/3x2) which gives, h=(5t^2)+(t^3/6). Then do the intial height minus this, so you get h=1000-((5t^2-t^3/6)) which givee the awnser of h=1000-5t^2+t^3/6.
unofficial mark scheme please someone??!

I sort of blagged it by arguing that, because velocity was measured downwards and h was measured upwards from the ground, the integral should be multiplied by -1 so both units are in the same direction.
Don't know if that's valid though.

Seemed to be nicer than any past paper I have ever done. The general mood exiting the exam hall was also pretty high.
Tougher than the past papers I've done and I've done all 2014,2013, 2012, 2011 past papers. For the last question what did velocity value did you get for A) and B). One where A) was box being dropped from 500m and B) box with a parachute

(A) On the question where you had to substitute t=10, h was 667m. This means the box had reached terminal velocity (50ms-1) after 333m- less than 500m.

(B) 25ms-1

Lovely now i've got high grade boundaries to look forward to. I hope the boundaries aren't too high. At most 59 for an A.
Don't understand why everyone thinks it was so easy! It was the hardest of any past paper I've done. And yet A = 62! I hate OCR MEI the grade boundaries are way too high. Mess up one question and you can go from an A to a C! How is that fair or representative of ability?!!
Preach it hard my fellow *****, although I would say that the people who are good at maths don't mess up on any questions, you ****ing goon ****. Xx
