AQA A2 Mathematics MPC4 Core 4 - 9th June 2015 [Discussion & unofficial markscheme]

Scroll to see replies

Guys, I've calculated the mean raw marks needed each for 80% (A) 90% (A*) and 100% for both C3 and C4.

I took the mean of each of the raw marks for those percentages between the year 2010-2014

Here are the means:

C3

80% : 59.67
Range : 57-63
(standard deviation for 80% on C3 is 1.9)

90% : 66.33
Range: 64-69

100% : 72.78
Range: 71-75

C4:

80% : 56.44
Range: 53-65

90% : 62.44
Range: 58-70

100% : 68.11
Range: 63-75
(standard deviation on 100% for C4 is 4.5)

Since a lot of you said C3 was hard, I guess it will be on the lower range of boundary marks
and vice versa on C4

70

That's too high. I would guess 67

Substitute the parametric equation into the normal equation.

So you think A* will be around 62

Nor am i hopefully i can get an A* but i really don't think 62 will be the boundary considering people found it easy.

Yeah

the last time people found a c4 exam nice was june 2010 after then its been considered a hard paper.
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1304582&page=9 That was 67 for an A* and 71 cap for 100ums. So i doubt 62 will be an A*

This person has written BE is length = ½AC, when it should be DE. Therefore the other value of µ should have been 6.

Is BE not the same length as DE as E is the midpoint of BD?

They are the same length, but I believe the other coordinate of B should be at the other side of E, not the other side of B.

That normal cutting the curve again was a hard question, I think very few people must've got that.

Yes i agree i thought there was some tricky questions but the overall response suggests the boundaries will be high.
Thank you!

Maybe, but anyway I know I've got an A*, 100ums is just extra, if I don't get it then doesn't matter really.

Thank you!

I did it up to sinq= -3/4 and sinq=1/2

but then i just sin inverse'd it and i rejected one of the values

how many marks do you think that'll get me?

I really need an A* too

and I was sick on C3
I ended up doing mistakes that I'd practised many times before
for example on the graphs and I even missed the secx by accident..

I literally didn't see it and integrated xsqrt5 or something along those lines.
that's why I really need 100% for me to have more than a ._ chance of an A*

anyway

um according to last year's boundaries
your mark of 62 = 96% UMS

Screen Shot 2015-06-09 at 15.07.46.png

depending on how you did in c3
you have a good chance
basically, you need to have gotten at least 84%

um that's also depending on if this year's boundaries are similar to last years

I guess last year wasn't too hard either so I thought it would be similar

Last year was 54 = 80
59 = 90
64 = 100

Ah ok thanks for doing this for me, really appreciate it  what'd you think you got on core 4? if you don't get the A* like you miss it by a few ums do you think the university will understand you perhaps had a bad day? :/ any advice about how to stop worrying and not let it affect my other exams? :/

What do you think you've got on both papers?
