AQA CHEM5 15th June 2015 [OFFICIAL THREAD]

AQA CHEM5 - 15 June 2015

:party2: :party2: :party2: :party2: :party2:

It has been suggested that to prevent confusion there should be 2 seperate threads for CHEM4 & CHEM5 instead of the current one thread for both exams so I have created this. How prepared is everyone for the CHEM5 exam which is on the 15th June 2015. Is everyone feeling prepared? I personally think CHEM5 is ok, the only thing I struggle on is transition metals but its been a long time since I revised CHEM5. I last did CHEM5 in the easter holidays. Going to hit CHEM5 after my c3 exam

i love chem 5!!
Anyone got a good method to remember the Hexaqua Ligand Substitution Colours?

Hate electrochemical cells, transition metals are okay
thank f**k CHEM4 is done, i find CHEM5 much more straightforward
Best way to revise chem 5?

learn all of your colours and definitions and then do past papers
I've killed all my chem 5 papers, i'll be so upset if the same thing happens with chem 5 as it did with chem 4 ahahaha
I might do the old spec CHEM5 papers, I've done all the new spec ones aswell

Failed my Chem5 mock a few weeks ago, absolutely dreading it! (Redox is fine though!) Since then, I've memorised the transition complex reactions and thermodynamic definitions, and I'm working on the period 3 equations - any other advice? Going back to the past papers tomorrow

I'm feeling alright. Just need to remember all the stupid ****ing colours and complex ion reactions but the concepts are fine.

I think there are less odd questions possible on CHEM5 than CHEM4 at least, nothing like that cyclodiene bond enthalpy question.

I'm self studying and that's basically how I learnt the whole thing to begin with.

what do you think will come up this year; got any predictions?
Hey everyone, so i have a chemistry tutor who has been teaching chem for a veeeery long time & her advice for unit 5 is to c come up with a list of things from the spec that didn't come up in the unit 4 exam: the theory is that because unit 5 is synoptic they might try to sneak in some things that weren't in unit 4.
So far i remember that chromatography didn't come up & neither did infrared spectroscopy. Hopefully if people can reply with what they remember we might be able to collectively make some predictions!
Also I know i haven't been using these threads very long but if you're here just to bore on about how "easy" you thought unit 4 was, jog on mate, soz

there's always a nasty (or nice, depending how good a chemist you are) question on transition metal titrations at the end; you usually have to construct an equation and the use the mole ratio to work something out. there's a couple of those that are tricky so make sure you go over those!!

well since CHEM4 was disgusting and had things out of the spec, they could ask us on a random transition metal that we haven't learnt about ;-) lol. no ideas tho wby?

well i think we'll have a weird question on cells and redox, and maybe a thermodynamics question wherein they trip you up by making you believe that "lattice dissociation" and "lattice formation" are the wrong/right way around? if that makes sense haha...

ahh yes! Thanks for the reminder  my tutor went through a few of these with me, so I should have a stack of practice questions somewhere
can someone help me please. when you are burning a metal such as aluminium powder, why does it burn more brightly when lowered in a glass jar?
