Guys what did you get for question 10? Did you get e^xlna = a

Posted from TSR Mobile
couldnt do 1c q8 or part of q7 (the use calculus part) i am an a* candidate and that is definately gone, good job i did very well in m1 so only need an e in c4 to get an a overall. not exactly much to revise for now the chance of an a* has been messed up by some maths boffins who love to mess around with papers that work.
guys did you get x=ln(3) for question 10c? I used a Quadratic but i'm not sure!

When it said y=pi/2
Give the exact value of x

what did everyone write?

Like 4pi squared something
maybe.. if they did then I am an idiot....
i'm just going off what my friends told me

Didn't they put the 'k is a negative constant' bit in bold?

4 pi squared I think..

The graph question (think it was question 2) definitely said state the asymptotes on both graphs so i put y=5 for the second graph even though i thought it was wrong?

Was there an asymptote and what was it?

y=5 is correct for the second graph. For the first graph the asymptote was y= -5

i really hope its still 43 for a B, since then i might actually still have a chance of getting into my uni, but if not then i guess ill just go start a fight or something

It definitely won't be. That core 3 replacement paper of June 2013 made by edexcel hit headline news for being a "tough" paper. I reckon a*67, a 60, b53, c46

right guys im so confused now, for the range question I wrote x=0, x=0.5, x=2
many people seem to agree....
from there i got -0.7<y<0.3 or something, and people say that's wrong but I don't see where I've gone wrong??????

I'm pretty sure this is actually right - its the same value just other people have got it in terms of e

What was dy/dx for question 9? I got 3k over (x-k)2

Think I got that as well except it was -3k over (x-k)^2

I'm not sure man, but I got a y coordinate being massive... Because the gradient of the line was 24pie for me... Did you get same?

Hi, if you are referring to the question with two intersecting curves and part b where it asks you to find the coordinates where it crosses y axis, dx/dy= 24pi so the gradient dy/dx of tangent was 1/(24pi). that is subbed into tangent equation with x =0 whatever y was in the question .I got coordinates of A being (0,pi/3)

Yeah census seems to confirm that this paper was indeed ****ing hard.

I got it. Not sure what question though

question to find corrdinates A
Holy sheeeet, i put f'(x) >0, and then just concluded its a decreasing, 1 mark gone
what a depressing paper...
how do they expect us to do all those questions within the time given?
Would have much prefer the june 2013 paper by miles.

You stopped too early - the range is the y values, not the x. 1/2 corresponded to the maximum and 2 to the minimum and you needed to sub those values back in to get the y values. You'll pick up method marks though!

It was 2^2x = lna. Did you get y=x^2 +2ln3 for 11b?
Original post by dhamm
I think it was a many-to-one, because multiple different x values give the same y value.

i said because it is not a one to one mapping. is that incorrect
Easiest paper ever. Standard questions, hopefully 72+
