Accommodation- Denmark Road

"i've heard Fallowfields is good but the crime rate seems to be rather bad" Could you elaborate this? I'm a prospective undergraduate student and I'm just curious.

Well it's good for the social aspect- if you like going out and are eager to make friends then Fallowfields is probably the place to be (this is the aspect I like) it's basically just full of students. But because it's known for students the crime rate is rather high, I had a friend who lived there and said the security isn't great in some accomadation- basically if they get through one security then they can basically walk in anywhere. When I was looking for facts about the accomadation I saw that robbery was REALLY high and in freshers week a few had been raped. Saying that though, any big city you go to will have crime and it's always a possibility you may be a victim and if it's known to be studenty then it'll be probably higher (like Fallowfields)

high in robbery...? I've never been or witnessed robbery in my life time. Ah... Manchester is quite dangerous huh?
To be honest, it sounded a little unusual when I heard that there are securities in each accommodation (not sure if it's per accommodation but anyhow...) but now it makes all sense I guess. I really hope that the offender was served proper justice...

I don't know which would be more suitable for me!
I kinda want to socialise a little bit escpecially in freshers. I don't really like fallow field campus because its just so far out and the added costs of travel don't even make it appealing.

So think I'd go with the city campus halls - I heard the other one is really quiet?
I'm thinking Denmark Rd, Weston Halls and George Kenyon.
Can anyone tell me what they're like?

The second layer is the door into the block (swipe card or key lock). The third layer is the locked door into your flat (in self catered halls). The fourth layer is your locked bedroom door. So, the idea that once they get through one layer of security they can walk around anywhere just isn't true.



Manchester is not particularly dangerous. It's a big city, so it's not crime free, but if you take the basic precautions that you would in any big city (e.g. Locking your front door and not walking home alone at night when you're drunk) then you will almost certainly be fine.

I studied in Manchester for three years and I lived in Fallowfield. Despite being a petite female, I was never the victim of crime.

Denmark Road is my first choice but I'm worried I won't get a place as it's the pretty much the only modern accommodation on offer in the City Campus - it must be so oversubscribed?! My grandparents once lived on Denmark Road too, in a Victorian terrace that's since been knocked down. It'd mean so much for sentimental reasons

When did you reply and what were your other choices?

Just been offered a place at denmark road. What is the social/student life like here? Would you have preferred to be at fallowfield what are the attractions of denmark road compared to fallowfield.

I'm currently living at Denmark Road and rebooked for next year, the social life and student life is good! Especially having flat mates from different universities. We have two private groups on Facebook where everyone posts nights out or flat parties.
Majority of the time everyone hangs out in the social area then go out with flat mates. Your close to a few bars and a taxi to the main clubs.

You won't miss out on the fallowfield parties as you'll probably have flat mates with friends living in houses.

What percentage would you say are from UoM that stay at Denmark Road. Also the percentage of Internationals staying there ? Thanks

By far the majority of students are UoM as there are two blocks owned by them however some flats are UoM then mixed with MMU and Salford students. I'm not too sure about international there is a few around.

In my flat presently we have 2 UoM students, 1 international and 3 MMU
