Why did you lose marks in units 1/2/4?
Also don't be too bothered by your coursework mark it's only like 20% of A2.

Got a B in unit one C in unit two (close to B) B in unit 3, a C in unit 4 and a D in unit 6 if I add up all my ucas points (by following the 2013 system, I need around 112 to get a B. 96 ucas points is an A so I'm looking at a decent A*!!! Haha I need a miracle

Yes last year's boundaries were:
58 for 100%
52 for A*
46 for A
41 for B

Last year was the lowest ever seen.

Excluding the last 2 years, A* has always been 60+?
For those doing applied option module, any predictions for the six marker?
Thanks for the reply mate, I'll be aiming for around 60 then to be safe - last year was pretty low though so I expect boundaries to rise?

Predictions for 6 marker on Astro?

With astrophysics its slightly harder to predict the 6 markers seeing as there, is on the whole, more to ask about than in the main bit of unit 5 in my opinion. however the previous ones have been on:

1. the big bang theory

2. CCDs

3. siting and sizing of telescopes (both optical and non optical)

4. H balmer lines

5. type 1a supernova and the expanding universe.

So i'm guessing it wont be on any of those.

Bear in mind it's out of 70 this time, not 75.

Oops hang on, nope its 75. 35 for optional unit, 40 for core unit. Sorry.

Im doing 2D, we usually have the lowest boundaries lmao

Yeah do bear in mind these boundaries only apply to astro so for other options there will be some variance as half the paper is totally different!
Im sure this has been asked too many times already (sorry) but approx how many marks can be lost on each of unit 4, unit 5/astro for an A*? I thought it was something quite high like 20 but I think i looked at the wrong boundary or something

Edit - oh wait oops just looked at the post above mine, answers my question

Can someone please take a photo of the page on Spectral classes in the AQA revision guide for astro and upload it? Wish i had bought one now...
How's everyones revision going?
Does anyone know the method to calculate and predict how many marks would one need in this Unit 5 exam for an A overall?

Like, for me:

Spoiler

Thanks

Do you have the UMS rather than the marks for any units, that makes it a lot easier to estimate!
Guys do we need to know about Quantum tunnelling?
Has anyone got that screen print of the questions that have come up in previous years? I saw it on unit 4 but I can't find it now

For turning points yes.

It's how between two plates an electron can act like a wave and jump across. As long as the gap is small enough and the potential difference is large enough. This is how electron tunnelling microscopes work.

Ah ok lets see, I set June 2013 in the UMS converter and got:

Unit 1: 88
Unit 2: 106
Unit 3T: 39
Unit 4: 108
Unit 6T: 17
Unit 5A: ?

Total UMS marks yet (predicted of course): 358
When I added all the needed UMS for an A grade in June 2013, it was 480
So the difference is 122 UMS.
Looks like I won't probably land an A looking at that :/
