You should use the reverse chain rule, or take the bracket equal to u and use a u substitution; both methods you're going to be doing the exact same thing.

The standard formula for integration is awful, I've always remembered it in words.

Then you're left with a 4x+7
Do we divide by this?

If in my maths exams I got (marks)
C1 - 60
C2 - 42
C3 18
C4 - 20
S1 - 50
D1 - 40

What grade would that get me in A-Level maths?

Correct. You have to expand it.

Yeah sorry, complete lack of concentration here! You most likely have to expand it I reckon

A U or an N grade.
You need to be more confident!

All the best. You've got this!

How could it be a U?

Average mark of about 39. So an E, but depending on boundaries you could certinally get a D. But with marks like that in C3/4 you can't be expecting much more.
60 + 42 + 18 + 20 + 50 + 40 = 230
230/6 = 38.33333.......

Don't know how the grading is. Sorry.
I thought if it was below 40, it'd be a U.

Apparently it's an E (according to user above.)

Good luck tomorrow!

Dont get integration by parts man....

That's not how it works! :P

60 + 42 + 18 + 20 + 50 + 40=230 (My score)
75 x 6 =450 (highest possible score)

(230/450) x 100 = 51

Thanks! I'm not expecting any more to be honest; I'd be freaking happy with a D! (no pun intended)

UMS Marks and Raw marks are different. Any previous results will be displayed as your UMS on your results sheet. UMS is what determines your grade.

So I would need about 55% raw marks (roughly) to even pass?!

completely depends on the grade boundaries!
let's make some estimations (worst case scenario estimations):
- 60 in C1 is around 75 ums (mid B)
- 42 in C2 is around 50 ums (D)
- 18 in C3 is around 15 ums (mid U)
- 20 in C4 is around 18 ums (mid U)
- 50 in S1 is around 64 ums (mid C)
- 40 in D1 is around 50 ums (D)
Total UMS: 75+50+15+18+64+50=272 UMS out of 480 UMS which is an E overall
But again it all depends on the grade boundaries and my estimations could be a long way out. However, i don't think it will be a U overall, i think your scores would be high enough for a solid E or maybe just about a D if grade boundaries were low?! Remember these were worst case scenario estimations. Good luck for tomorrow with C4 tho, hopefully it will better than what you expect.

Dude, focus on C4. I'll go through it tomorrow. It's not like you're only going to do a set amount of questions. Try your hardest. Get some sleep in you!

Aaaaand here's the question... I need sleep

Hope the picture is clear enough

EDIT: Just realized there should be an integral sign before the 1 on the second line

good luck everyone! get some sleep!

Spend about 15 minutes on this and it should make a lot more sense.

Thanks ill watch it!
Really cant do C4 after all the revision I did for it it just doesn't stick with me enough to grasp it which is really depressing as if I walk in and do the first question I have a C in A level maths, where as I require 54% for a B in A level Maths which sounds do able but I don't think I can grasp enough in the 4 hours tomorrow morning before the exam and thats so depressing :frown:
