unusual vector question for those you can ...

solution to the question I posted earlier
Original post by TeeEm
your modelling is wrong ... the volume of revolution formula you are using only works if you are revolving around the x axis.

this is revolution about y=1

either you derive a new formula from first principles or do like I did in the solutions

Oh, I misread the question! thanks

Give it another go
It is an extremely tough question without solutions.

I have seen them all ...

Here is a vector file ... (Up to A2 level vectors only)

The questions you post sometimes make me contemplate whether I'm good enough to study Maths at Uni..
(The vector question seems do-able though)

I did not know you have applied for mathematics...
Which Universities have you applied?
Are you doing Further Maths?

Due to my school not being able to offer me A2 FM I wasn't able to apply to UCL or Imperial. As I wanted to stay in London my next best options were Kings and QMUL. I have Kings as firm atm and QMUL as insurance. Predicted A*A*ABa.
Though I must say if I don't get into King's I'll probably retake (regardless of if QMUL take me or not), with FM A2 this time.

I turned down University of Leeds and University of Surrey.
Got rejected by University of Bristol.

I hope it works for you
Many students of mine in recent years got into KCL for maths.
My younger sister also did Maths at QMW in 1988.

One of my former students (did straight maths, grade A* in 2010) would be going to KCL.

He did a degree in "surveying" or something in Reading, did not enjoy it and thus he did not do well. He decided to do a Maths degree.
He revisited his Maths and he just finished Further Maths.
He got rejected from UCL, got unconditional from QMW, and needs A in Further maths for KCL.
Almost certainly will be going there in September.
His username here is Tiri

Will hopefully be using some of your undergrad resources next year

How would you rate QMUL? I'm a bit undecided whether to retake and pick up A2 FM (as I finished AS FM this year) and push for UCL or go there?
Not just in terms of University but life after University aswell. Job prospects etc..

I've always been told to study something you like at university:yep:

Hard to advice ...
QMW is far better than the perceived opinion but fails to attract, mainly because the are is not attractive to students. I would not do Maths there because the course is very pure and stats.

Kings is better, central and its reputation has risen in recent years.

UCL, call me biased or whatever, is top.
There are only 3 places I would personally pick instead of UCL and these are Cambridge, Oxford and Imperial.

I would not go to Warwick even if you paid me.
I laugh when I hear Bath or Durham...

I guess everyone to their own...

Very picky.
I would say its either KCL or retake for me. Though I have not made my mind up yet.
I'll leave the decision making for summer.
C4 tomorrow:woo:

the expression you write is ambiguous.
Use brackets please.
As it is written there definitely not the same

2X

- 4Xdy/dx

-4y

+4ydy/dx

=0

sorry I don't know where to put the brackets

(4y-4x)dy/dx = 4y-2x

dy/dx = (4y-2x)/(4y-4x)

dy/dx = (2y-x)/(2y-2x)
