I feel like I misinterpreted essay B after reading people's comments -
I wrote about he importance in cell devision about proto oncogenes, tumour suppressor genes and their mutations.
Then the importance of reproduction I wrote about mutation in gametes, random assortment, random segregation, crossing over and random fusion of gametes to produce variation for selection.
The importance of development I wrote about differentiation/cells becoming specialised for their function in a multicellular organism (eg the pancreas is a organ and has islets of langerhan but it also contains enzyme secreting cells for digestion.
Then importance of development in other organisms I talked about how meristem in plants don't differentate and remain totipotent and this is the basis of asexual reproduction.

I feel like my easay is not even close to anyone else's - have I misinterpreted? :frown:

This is Exact same as me!!! I felt I misinferpeted it too
Did anyone write because the phospholipid bilayer is not water soluble?

I wrote really similar things to you! I think this answers the question more than a lot of other people's responses
I did 10a and wrote about:

Nervous response: thermoregulation, osmoreceptors, heart rate control (for enzymes)
Plants: tropisms and growth factors
Very briefly described taxis and kinesis
CO2 control for enzymes.
I think i focused too much on what they do rather than the importance of doing it.

I accidentally wrote that the hypothalamus controls heart rate rather than the medulla. Does anyone know how many marks I will have lost. I'm so annoyed with myself!

Everyone saying this exam was "really easy" don't know how badly they have flopped.

It was an alright paper, although personally I think it was structured different to previous past papers in the wording of some of the questions. There were a lot of question that you could not be 100% on what the markscheme wants and also a lot of questions where there is a high possibility of getting 1 or 2 marks out of 3 depending on the markscheme. The essays were good though and overall the paper was nice, I think boundaries will increase but only a little 2/3 but not by to much more

I said the cannoboid was lipid soluble and could therefore diffuse through the phospholipid bilayer that made the cell surface membrane.

I think you'd get outside of spec marks if you get full marks on scientific contect for the essay

You should always get off spec marks regardless of the your overall content mark

I always felt like bio 5 was always a gamble... I never felt like I could be fully prepared for it no matter what...
How do you get 2 marks on the LH question? I write ovulation at 14 days and the fact that it stimulates progesterone

Was this a 1 marker??
I totally forgot to talk about things like tropism and kinesis for 10 a)
I only talked about thermoregulation in terms of enzymes and how this can affect metabolic reactions e.g respiration
I talked about how osmoregualtion in the kidney prevents dehydration
I talked about haemoglobin and how percentage saturation changes depending on the partial pressure of oxygen
And then I spoke about the control of the heart rate in relation to maintain blood pressure
Looking at what everybody else put I don't think I have got anywhere near enough breadth but I did talk about each point in reasonable detail and included something off spec

Nah I think if we had a week before the unit5 exams after unit 4 exams in general I would have done miles better in them. I have literally had one exam everyday since last week. I do maths, chem, bio, physics, because of this I think I have missed the A* in all those subjects. In biology it will depend on boundaries, God and the examiners mercy.

I just said it causes the follicle to rupture and from that the corpus luteum starts to develop ....

I said that is encourages the corpus luteum to develop and then about how this releases progesterone, inhibiting the release of LH

yeah so lipid soluble would have been enough but always scared with bio and write a full answer just incase
The first question, answers were, Actin, ATPase and Tropomyosin, right? ....
For 10.a I misinterpreted question in only wrote about internal stuff, will it be okay if what I did write was detailed and relevant?

Really because I heard that this year they were going to mark it different but you never know and tbh I prefer getting marks without all of the content
