Oh dear... I got several different answers there

For which bits? This thread seems to have loads of disagreement lmao :tongue:
guys i have a (stupid) ques; basically for astro where you had to tick the star i first ticked white dwarf the crossed out put main sequence cam back crossed this out and circled and put next to the white dwarf box this is the answer with an arrow; and in the expain i also explain why it was a white dwarf; would i get marked down because i was not neat when ticking the boxes as i didnt have a tick but a circle and pointed it out?

Think it was a paper that contained several dubious questions tbh.

I said the gamma rays obey the inverse square law is that wrong

idk if its wrong but thats what i wrote about, hopefully its right

me too and i think it was only a mark ques?
It's likely that they will accept a fairly big range for question 1)b) in section A, the range of alpha and beta particles depends a lot on their kinetic energy.

How do your answers compare with mine? Besides that range question.

Well I know not all mine are right but there are Afew of yours that took me by surprise image.jpg

I agree, I don't think it was the most straight forward paper to be honest. Astrophysics was definitely a bit harder than usual

It's slowly looking as though the answers wernt quite as straight forward as we all thought. That distance from earth one has annoyed me along with Afew others... I really really hope an A is 52 I've worked so hard and a few silly mistakes can cost you years of hard work 😔
Please can somebody explain why the star was a white dwarf and not main sequence? It had an absolute magnitude closer to -10 than 15 so I thought it would be MS.

I got...

Thermal and Nuclear
Range of = 0.05m
Range of = 0.3m
Density =
Number of nuclei =
Energy used = 47000J

Temperature = 319K

Astrophysics
Maximum distance = I got totally wrong...
Diameter = 3.0m
In the 6 mark essay my period was 4 days, and my velocity was 114 kms-1
Magnitude = -0.008
Temperature = 16100K
White dwarf radius =
Black hole radius =
Age of the universe =

160000 is wrong on there for a start

Agreed. Last year was easy compared.

Yes but there was no R, not in sectionA, not in sectionB

Yeah there was, the exam code was PHYA5R

I also thought so. I said too cool to be a giant and too big to be a dwarf. Also the power output was comparable with the sun.

So we got mostly the same, apart from the ranges and the diameter; my magnitude can be ignored it's a load of **** xD That's reassuring :tongue:

I think there were a lot of funny questions that a lot of people will have messed up, and the written questions were also a tad confusing, so I think the boundaries will be low. I wish someone had a mark scheme though so I could work out what I got.

sorry! forgot to change a few -

1.45 for the density of nucleus and 2.27 for the number of nuclei!

Yeah there was, the exam code was PHYA5R

We had to write the R on the front our our paper as it wasn't there
