Why do people think it's weird to do things like going to the cinema alone??

I went to the cinema alone for the first time to see The Hunger Games as no one else wanted to see it then I went to see Men Woman and Children on my own because it looked good and I was already going to the cinema later with my mum so I thought I'd go see that too and then today I went to see The Longest Ride today on my own because I've waited for it to come out forever and I wasn't going to miss seeing it just because no one else wanted to!! I don't remember if there was any one else alone in the cinema for the other two movies but today there was an old woman and an oldish woman both sat on their own so is it more acceptable to do this when you're older or what..? You're just sitting down and watching a movie and it actually makes more sense to go on your own in my opinion

I also went to watch 5 Seconds of Summer in concert on my own recently and the people next to me looked at me so weird when I walked in. Okay, so a concert is more social than watching a movie but again, you are just there to WATCH something not socialise with your friends right??

imo watching a movie with other people makes the experience even better
Why do you give a f***... I admit I've only gone to cinema alone once (I was in a new city) but you're thinking too much into this. Nobody cares what you're doing there, alone or with a group of friends.

I guess it depends on the person as if they constantly move/talk it can get annoying

I'm just saying people act like it's weird when really it isn't

I don't get how though lmao, you sit there for 2 hours in complete silence and darkness and even after there's only so much you can say about it :erm:

I've got a small indie cinema near me, nice to see some of the niche stuff on your own tbh
It's seen as a social activity, so to go on your own seems very odd.
I've never been to a cinema alone but I basically agree with you, it's not really a very good group activity. I think for me and probably most people it's just that I wouldn't bother if it were just me. But no, there's nothing wrong with it.

OP is right though, it's not really social at all. You sit there and watch a film.

At least if you go to the cinema alone, you won't always have someone else putting their hand in your popcorn because they got a small and you got a large or trying to talk to you in the middle of a ****ing good scene.
It's not weird at all. The only people that think that are those who are too insecure to do anything by themselves and have a reliance on other people to make them happy.

You can say 'Hi' and talk to them about the concert or movie or whatever if you think it's weird being alone.

Cinema is usually a social experience because you don't really go out into town alone, usually you grab someone with you. But again, it's one of those things nobody gives a damn about and neither should you.

I know, I have no idea why, one time I said I was going to see a film alone my siblings just said I was weird and I didn't end up going.

Speaking of which, I did go and see 'unfriended' with a few of my friends last month and I really enjoyed it. Have you seen it? :u:

Depends really. Seeing a comedy film, for example, is certainly more of a social activity; you're more likely to laugh more, release endorphins and enjoy the film much more as a result. Not to mention, regardless of the genre, half the fun is coming out of the cinema after seeing a great film with your friends and then going for food and chatting about all the best bits
I guess its because the cinema is traditionally seen as social activity ..even tho its not really lol- most people go with people so if you go by yourself you'll stand out. I wanna go by myself just to see how it'll be like...its good to do things by yourself sometimes and have personal enjoyment time. I would love to go on a holiday by myself too...but the 1st step is the cinema lol
Because people fear the silent judgement of those who do not know them.
Well if you're lucky enough to have a decent local cinema and it's showing a film that you really want to see then I say go for it. I live no where near a cinema so it would be a dream to be able to that. I used to live in a huge city with everything on my doorstep and it's so easy to take it for granted - when you don't have access to things like that you really miss is. Personally, I'd go see whatever I wanted regardless of who is or isn't going with me - enjoy your life! I remember going to ODEON to watch that Leonardo DiCaprio film on my own (the one where he's looking across the water and looking at a light....not Titanic) and there were other people on their own in the screening room.
You just like going to see films a lot that's all no big deal. At least you don't have to put up with all that pretentious showing off all the time?
